My father passed away earlier this year, but left a good sum of Marriott reward points. My wife and I are trying to book a room for this weekend in Austin, but I am just curious what the best way to go about it is? I have his Marriott rewards number and access to his online account, but I don't know if they will give me any grief when the credit card is in my name and I show up to check-in b/c when I book with his account it will show up under his name.

Should I just say in the comments my son will be checking in or this room is for my son and list my name?

Or should I call and act as him?

Thanks for any help. Don't want to show up and they deny me.

Is there a way you can gift/transfer them to yourself?

You can only transfer to legal spouse. Nobody else.

The programs tweak the rules occasionally but in the past I have booked a room online in my name and then called later and changed the name and CC number on the room and had no problems.

I have heard from friends you can't book rewards for someone else directly online but if you call and talk to an agent it is no problem.

A non-Marriott awards member may not get the reward members "status perks" at some of the uppity properties from what I've heard but my kids always seem to get my status perks at the properties I book for them.

Could you add your credit card to your fathers account?

There are probably some good discussions on flyertalk or elsewhere if you look around.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I think I am just going to book it online, and in the comments section say my son will be checking in before me. Then call the hotel (act as my dad) and tell them as well. It appears I will be able to use my CC on the website as well. Don't think it'll be a problem.

Appreciate it!

On a related note, we tried to get our late Dad's SW Airlines points transferred. The agent said we couldn't but as long as we still had the password and account number, we should just use them up.
