I have narrowed it down to cabo or Turks and Caicos for our 5 year anniversary. I can get free air travel to either due to flyer miles. Looking for advice on best places to stay at either location as well as which location is the better of the two?

Been to both.
2 different vibes so depends on what you want Cabo - Mexican party vibe, lots of beach vendors, rougher waters, strong currents, great fishing, not so great snorkeling, great golf, lots of bars
T&C - Grace Bay is one of the top 10 beaches in the world, powder sand, Caribbean laid back vibe, not much nightlife, great snorkeling, more of a stay at your resort and hang at the beach place, the airport is vile - small hot and cramped.

21 year old me would choose Cabo. Me today would go to T&C in a second - and will be next year.

Thanks Big Al. Any recommendations on where to stay in Turks. Sounds like I might save Cabo for a group trip. That sounds like a place to go have fun with a group!!!

We went to Provo last year with 3 other couples, rented a house, Footprints on the Sand, at the end of Grace Bay. Water was amazing, several good restaurants, and as mentioned, not exactly a Spring Break type atmosphere. It is expensive though. You also drive on the left.

Stay at Royal West Indies in Provo. Loved it. Had a second floor balcony overlooking the beach. Wish I was back there. View from our room...

Depending on where you stay, cabo can be as described above or one of the best places on earth to relax and never leave the hotel..

There are 3 or 4 hotels that cater to adults and consistantly rated as some of the best in the world. .. Palmilla being one of the these I can attest to ... pricey yes but if you can swing Palmilla, Esperanza or Las Ventanas you will not be dissapointed ..There are a few new ones as well but I have not checked them out. Out of the top 3, Palmilla usually has the better prices so check the webisite for deals...

Yes there are a ton of bars but there are just as many 5 star restaurants as well.

being in Cali, Cabo is a no brainer for us as the plane ride is less than 2 hours...

When I go on a beach vacation, the four things I look for in order are scuba/snorkeling, beach quality, quality of the resort, and dining. I don't care about nightlife or the number of excursions. T and I is one of the top 5 places to dive/snorkel in North/South America and Cabo just isn't going to compare. Also, T and I has probably the best beaches I've ever seen short of Bora Bora. But T and I also doesn't have what I would call world class resorts or fantastic dining. Not that it's bad, just not on the same level as Cabo. Personally, I would pick T and I over Cabo any day, but in the end, it just depends on what you want out of your vacation. You won't go wrong with either pick.

As far as places to stay: Capella Pedregal in Cabo is fantastic. One of the best resorts I've been to in my life. My favorite in T and I is The Regent Grand.

Thanks guys. Already talked to a couple buddies and looking to do the cabo thing next year. Seems like the place to go with a group or couples which would make the experience more fun w/fishing and the night life. Decided on T&I for the Wife and I for the Anniversary thing. I will definitely look into the Royal West Indies and Regent Grand. They look awesome. Are there any must does and cant miss places that we must see why we are there. Also, planning on going the second week of October. Got to plan around the home football games. Haha. How is it around October and how worried should we be with it being the very end of hurricane season? Thanks.

Visit chalk sound. The water is so green it's almost neon. It's like a postcard come to life. Not sure if you dive or snorkel but would recommend flamingo divers or Island Vibe tours for snorkeling.

Wife and I rented SUP boards. We paddled around Grace Bay and also on backside in the mangroves, lots of cool starfish but the water taxis will try to swamp you

I was paddling offshore once and saw a huge ass shadow swimming around. Scared the hell out of me till I realized it was JoJo the local dolphin. He started following me, still a little disconcerting. Also a couple of turtles would come up for air every once in awhile and startling us both. Be sure and eat at Da Conch Shack. We had some other great dinners on the beach but I can't remember the names. Drinks at the Long Bar are high dollar but it's kind of cool.

Been to TCI twice. Stayed at Royal West Indies the second time.

I want to retire on that island. Not kidding.

As far as miscellaneous tips go....

1. Rent a car. You get to drive on the wrong side of the road (with roundabouts!) and it is a hoot.

2. Conch Shack is legit.

3. No one knows how to get to Taylor Bay. It is the best beach on the island. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g147399-d2705183-Reviews-Taylor_Bay-Providenciales_Turks_and_Caicos.html

4. Book an excursion that goes to West Caicos.

I second Taylor Bay. We rented a car and found it about 2 years ago during our 10 year anniversary. It is hidden...you have to park in somewhat of a residential area, then walk down a trail past some tennis courts through some scrub to get to the beach. Absolutely picture perfect. There were only about 3-4 other couples on the entire beach, which is curved stretches about a half mile between some rocky outcrops. Water is calm and very shallow. Wife and I just sat in water and chilled. Man, talking about this makes me want to go back.

This guy has been there.

When we went to Taylor bay, we parked by the tennis courts and made our way through the brush. No one else was on the beach that day.

In the midst of planning our wedding in T&C. There will be about 50 including children, so we were considering a more family friendly place like Beaches. Still considering others, so comments from T&C SME's are definitely welcome. Feel free to send a PM.

Taylor bay does not exist. Do not search for it.

@ Burn-It

The first time I went to TCI, we stayed at Northwest Point Resort. My kids were 8 and 10 at the time, and it was very family friendly.

It is completely isolated from the rest of the island, which is good if you want to avoid the party scene, but bad for restaurants.

Northwest Point was like being on my own private island. There are no adjacent resorts.

The second time we stayed at Royal West Indies, and I will probably stay there next time as well. I like being closer to the grocery store and restaurants. Many of the excursions pick up guests on Grace Bay, so it is a very convenient location.

I hope that you and your family have a wonderful time.

We did Provo for our honeymoon in 2010. Grocery store prices were pretty absurd, but we had a great time. Best place I've been in the Caribbean.
