Has anyone here been to Sturgis? My husband and I are strongly considering going this year. We would like to know where people stayed - hotel, house, camping, etc.

Stayed in Rapid City. It is about a 30 minute ride to Sturgis. Visit Spearfish and Lead on the West side of Sturgis. If you have time head to the East of Rapid City. The National Parks Service operates a real missile silo. You can actually go down into the silo if you make reservations. Check out their website.

Also don't forget the obvious..Rushmore and Crazy Horse.

As for Sturgis...it is what it is. Huge crowds. There is a motorcycle museum there. It has multiple floors of displays and a reasonable fee.

We went the day after the rally was over. No drunks, fights, etc and plenty of half price T-Shirts.

Toughest part of the trip was the ride from B/CS to Amarillo in August. Well over 100 degrees. We stopped at almost every convenience store we saw to get a bottle of water.

BTW there is a great Honda Gold wing dealer in Rapid City. (Rice Honda).

*Of course if you are a riding a Harley, bring plenty of oil and large tool box.

: )

* a little motorcycle humor.

I've been. Have you ever been to a rally (e.g. ROT)?

Can be a lot of fun, but really depends on what you're going for. Riding in the area is awesome, but can be much less expensive outside of rally period.

I don't know that I would go just as a couple, group is more fun.

Four of us went to Sturgis. Eighteen of us went to Wing Ding. (Gold Wing annual rally. It is in South Carolina this year).

It is more fun in group....and safer too.

I don't have my AARP card yet so can't go to WingDing.

We are likely going to trailer the bike (Road King) to Omaha (where my aunt lives) and ride from there. I am seriously thinking I may take the truck the whole way. We were planning for a group, but not sure that will work out. People seem to to be unwilling to totally commit.

My husband has been ROT Rally. I am going with him this year. We are going with several people. This year we have an RV that is being put up and picked up for us at a great price. Very excited about it.

So true my friend. You could fight it like Chuck Norris. He has a Harley....but it is triked.

Don't forget to wave. It's a maroon one with a big American flag.
