Im looking for somewhere that has as few campsites as possible. Very few people. Do private familys rent out land for camping?

There are tons of private campgrounds all across the state. Are you looking for somewhere specific?

hill country, around san antonio or austin. I know there are private campgrounds- i just wonder if they are full of people, just like the state ones.

i guess i don't know exactly what im looking for. i just get turned off at campgrounds full of trashy people 20 feet on either side of you.

What kind of camping are you wanting to do? My husband and I particularly like the primitive sites at nearly any state park. I absolutely love the sites at Pedernales Falls, and we never had a problem being crowded. However, it's at least a 5 mile hike in to the sites themselves.

a private campground is going to be just a crowded as state parks. they are in the business of making money and don't make money by putting as little people as possible on their land.
you want privacy, head west! Big Bend has primitive car camping sites where you will be all alone. Or if you go backpacking, you can go days without seeing another person.

I second hiking in but if you're looking for car camping, this might be a good option in that area.

We stayed there a couple nights and will go back. I also hate crowded, noisy campgrounds. The crowd wasn't exactly the same as you'd find at the Ritz but the old lady that runs the place is serious about her rules and it didn't have a crowded feel to it despite being full.

I haven't been in years, but I remember some of the campgrounds in new braunfels along river road being pretty deserted during non-peak times like during the spring or middle of the week not around a holiday. The farther you went up the river toward canyon lake the less crowded the campgrounds were even on a holiday.

We have always rented the peninsula at Camp Pedernales. They don't have a website, but the number is (512) 264-2735. It's a really nice area, but it has been lacking in water lately.
