How long do you want to ignore this user?
I lost my Texas DL and need to fly Sunday and don't have a passport. Will a social security card and random photo ID (gym card, work ID, etc) or a paper temp DL and photo suffice?

TIA

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/customer/editorial_1029.shtm

quote:
Passengers who do not have a valid photo ID, such as State-issued driver’s license, should bring any ID or documents they have available to assist in verification of identity. Passengers need at least two alternate forms of identification, such as a social security card, birth certificate, marriage license, or credit card. The documents must bear the name of the passenger. Also, one of these documents must bear identification information containing one of the following: date of birth, gender, address, or photo. If TSA can confirm the passenger’s identity, they may enter the secured area, but they could be subject to additional screening.

likely will have to go through secondary screening, but other than that shouldn't be a hassle

depends on where you are flying out of

I wa son a business trip about 5 years ago and forgot my DL. Had no form of ID

I flew out of College Station Easterwood which their idea of security is to check for a pulse. connecting flight in Houston but already was thru security so no big deal.

problem was I was going to the Washington DC area and my flight back was out of Washington Dulles. I made it on the flight but I had to go thru alot of additional screening, xray machines, scanners ect ect ect to get thru security. My bag was checked double checked and checked again by several different people. And it took all of the 3 hours I had allotted myself..got on the plane literally as it was pulling away.

not fun at all

I lost my DL while drunk one night in DC a few years back. Fortunately I was out there for another several days so I had a buddy fedex me an expired one that I knew I had in my desk drawer. I was less concerned with flying home and more concerned with getting into the White House.

A couple of weeks ago I was in Pittsburgh for a wedding. At the airport on the way home, one of my friends realized she had lost her purse with her ID. They let her fly home with her scuba certification card and SS card.

Strange thing about flying home from DC that trip, the ticket agent only looked at my license as an afterthought, and probably wouldn't have asked for it if I wasn't holding it in my hand.

The security agent was in complete lala-land and didn't even stop me and look at my boarding pass or ID.

Because of that trip I got a Texas issued ID card as a backup that I just keep in my briefcase in case that ever happens again.

Reminds me of when I was going through Customs at LAX last year. I was wearing a classic orange home uniform Houston Astros hat. The punk working Customs was more interested in making fun of me for being an Astros fan than he was in screening me.
