anybody been? going for a week in june. wondering where to stay, what to do, etc etc

I would recommend renting a house near the beach. There are a ton available.

We went two summers ago and we are going back this summer. We go for the July 4th week. We are renting a house this year on the beach. Very reasonably priced and a great family atmosphere. Lots of places to eat in the area. Also you have to get a Cow. There is a milkshake place about three miles from the beach and the Cow is awesome. We had one every night we were there. Also have to eat at the steamer. Great seafood and cold beer.

never even heard of gulf shores but am looking forward to it! the beach looks pretty badass for the gulf.

Just got back form there. The in-laws have a place and we go fairly often. You need to try the steamer and if a nicer meal is in order try Louisiana Lagniappe or Grazie for (seafood) Italian.

Like they said, rent a house near the beach. Go eat at Lambert's Country Cooking "Home of the Throwed Roll".

I second the Lambert suggestion. You will leave stuffed.

We are looking at going to Gulf Shores June 6 - 10. Will the flood waters of the Mississippi affect the beaches in Gulf Shores?

I was there last week for work. We like Lambert's as well. The meatloaf fed me 3 times (I'm 6'2", 210 so I'm not exactly a dainty eater either).

Lulu's is right off 59 on the north side of the canal. Owned by Jimmy Buffet's sister. Food isn't really recommended, but a good place for a drink, live music, etc.

The Flora-Bama Lounge is another place worth checking out and having a beverage or two. It's about 10 miles east on 182.

If you're into fishing, the spanish mackerel were blowing up the beach everywhere. Gold gotcha lures worked very well for me. Get a few of them or use a steel leader because they are toothy. Pompano should be in too, but I didn't fish for them.

I'm thinking of taking the fam there this summer. Any suggestions on reasonably priced lodging?

Look up vrbo.com or Meyer Realty online. They have a database you can search for the time you will be there. Condo, homes, etc. We found a condo and they gave us an additional night free as the previous group was leaving a day early.

Also planning to go this summer (late July) with wife + 2 kids. Any suggestions on which part of beach is more kid friendly (west, east, orange). We will probably stay in condo since kids want beach but wife also wants pool.

I was thinking about one of the westernmost condos near houses since beach will be less crowded, but from aerials they don't look as nice. Also not sure about restaurants and other stuff. Orange beach area is nice but the condos are packed in.

Any ideas / recommendations are welcomed!

Really reasonable prices. Am I missing something? When I checked on some stuff on the Texas coast, what I looked at seemed more expensive than gulf shores...

The Beach Club in Fort Morgan is outstanding. Been 4-5 times. Great facility, views and secluded location. You can get 1- to 4-bedroom condos there at vrbo.com or meyer real estate.

Go over to Pensacola, FL to see the Naval Air Museum and possibly see the Blue Angels practice.
