Probably a dumb question but I don't fly much...Any issues with throwing a few pounds of meat in a small cooler in my checked bag?

You can't just buy meat there?

Id say that if they were in a "cooler" with frozen ice packs...then I think they would be fine. Just keep in mind that it will be something like 7 or 8 hours in there by teh time you pack them, get to the airport fly and unload.

I dont think there are rules against this unless you are flying internationally. I could be mistaken.

or your bags get lost/rerouted and get returned to you two weeks later.... EEEEEHHHHHH!

You can also use those freezer bags you can get at the store to keep things cold. If the sausage is frozen, just carry it on with you in the freezer bag.

I've carried Freebird's burritos and other Texas fare halfway across the United States that way and never had a problem

Have had friends do this for me and I've done it as well - bringing back Texas BBQ. Just freeze it and wrap it in extra bags. I actually took it in my carryon and that worked really well - most of the flights were 4 or 4.5 hours.

It will not work internationally....

I've done it. I got a little white igloo ice chest. Filled it to the brim with frozen venison and boudin. My flight was only about 3 hours, so I dont think I even put any ice packs in it. Sealed it up with a crap load of duct tape, checked it, and had no issues. Some of it is still in my freezer

You cannot pack with dry ice. Brought back a 40qt cooler of frozen salmon from Alaska that took about 24 hours.

Thanks for the help. I think i'm gonna go with boot liners full of sausage in the cary on. If it thaws, we'll just eat it.

I usually just put it in my pants and walk on the plane that way.

Next time I travel I'm going to put a frozen summer sausage in my pants pocket and pray that I get selected for the backskatter machine.
