I just got back yesterday. We stayed in Rincon for the majority of the trip in the Puntas area. We just relaxed on the beach and went to the bars in that area. I had a blast, will definitely be going back.

Here is the place we stayed, the Sea Breeze unit: www.islandmon.com/rentals/.
I would definitely recommend it. Julianne, who owns it, is an extremely cool woman and it just felt like Puerto Rico. It was a little warm at times because there are only window units in the bedrooms, but we never had that big of an issue with it. We found it on VRBO, and got it with 5 people for $110 a night. If you email her, tell her the 5 kids from Texas sent you.

On our last night we stayed in San Juan at the Caribe Hilton. We got it for $120 on Priceline, probably could have gotten it for less. It would have been extremely nice if it wouldn't have been cloudy, but for our purposes it would have been better to stay in Old San Juan.

I'll post pics when I get them uploaded later today.

I just realized who posted this thread.

Actually, I don't care because I had an awesome time and I'd love for you to experience it too. It was just a ton of fun.

Medalla, medalla, medalla, medalla.

Thanks for the pictures, wealeat. That looks like a nice place. How is the Rincon area in general? Do you think it would be suitable for a honeymoon, or are there other parts of PR that would be more ideal? I'm in the process of planning mine right now and have considered PR, but haven't actually been there.

Rincon is a cool little surfer town especially so the Puntas area, so it depends on your cup of tea as to if it would be a nice honeymoon place. HollywoodBQ went to one of the nice resorts in Rincon, so I would think that would fit better for a honeymoon he might be able to tell you more. The Rincon proper area is a nice small town with a cool little square. We didn't venture to the resort area, but they are expensive so I assume you get what you pay for.

We only went to Rincon and Old San Juan so I can't tell you about other areas. I hear Vieques is gorgeous as it as only recently turned to tourism so it is still unspoiled. It also has a bio-luminescent bay.

I can tell you one thing, the beaches were better than I expected and very secluded. It was definitely romantic, wish my girlfriend could have went. I think you really couldn't go wrong with taking a honeymoon in Rincon. It just depends if you want a resort type place, which Rincon has, or a little bit more of the authentic, or at least I felt like it was authentic, experience we had.

I'll post a trip report thread when I upload pics to Flickr. Go over the restaurants we ate at and everything.

While Rincon is great, I would look somewhere else, say Fajardo (El Conquistador) for a honeymoon. They have an amazing, upscale property, private island/beach, casino, etc. Plus the ferry to Vieques is right there. And you're close to El Yungue (the rain forest). And great snorkling....

And one of these days HollywoodBQ will get off his arse and put the pictures of his 2007 Puerto Rico trip online.

I think things are approaching slowing down enough where I can get around to that.

i have a question for anybody who has been.
about how much did you spend total on flight, hotel, food and activities?

air is the biggest variable. I've been about 14 times...some as cheap as $250 r/t and as much as $800. They are hurting right now, so air should be cheaper than normal. Anything under $500 is not bad.

Hotels are as cheap as you want or as expensive as you want.

Activities...well, think US prices.

My wife and I went there on our honeymoon and had a great time. We stayed at the Wyndham Rio Mar in Rio Grande, actually in Palmer, PR. I was a bit disappointed in the service and quality at the Wyndham. We did El Yunque, Luqillo (Kioskos/Balneario), a few days at the resort, which did have great beach, and 2 days in Viejo San Juan. For a hotel, I recommend tha you decide where you want to stay and what you want to see. If you want to see Viejo San Juan/Bioluminescent Bay/El Yunque/Vieques/Culeba Island, I recommend staying at El Conquistador in Fajardo. You can be in Viejo San Juan in an hour. You can catch a ferry to Vieques/Culebra in 20 minutes or you can be at El Yunque in 20 minutes. If you want to stay exclusively in San Juan, I recommend Hotel Convento, Marriot La Concha, Hilton Caribe or El San Juan Hotel. One can easily spend 2-3 days in Viejo San Juan and still not cover it all. As for the West/Southwest, it is hard to Rincon/Boqueron/Mayaguez/Ponce in the same trip as San Juan/Vieques/Fajardo,etc. The reason for that is that it takes 2 hours to get to Western PR by car unless you fly. One can drive the island pretty easily though. We rented a car and had a ton fun driving around.

If you want to stay in Western PR, I recommed, based on what locals informed me, the Horned Dorset or the Rincon Beach Resort.

Rincon Beach Resort - that's where I stayed for one night. Wish I would have stayed there longer.
