Headed to San Diego for the first time to spend the weekend with my girlfriend who will be their on business.

I'm going Fri, Sat, & Sun either Nov 14th or Nov 21st - probably the 21st so I can catch the Chargers/Colts game on Sunday.

Any bars, restaurants, sites that a must do's???

To be more specific....I'm looking for good restaurants for Friday & Saturday night. Preferrably somewhere with a good view of the city or possibly somewhere we could watch the sunset on the bay.

Also looking for some good bars to go to. We're not really the clubbing type.

Also looking for some day activities for Friday, Saturday & Sunday morning. She want to go to the San Diego Zoo at some point.

WHiskey girl is a good one to see some really good cover bands.

I liked Tabul and the Fish Mareket House. Both are very good and the second you can waych the sunset from.

I would go to The Grape Wine Bar. Great place to get local wines.

Bandar is another good place to eat on a date.

George's in La Jolla is a fantastic place to have dinner and watch the sunset.

On Saturday go to Las Cuatro Milpas its almost under The Coronado Bay bridge - Crosby Street exit off of I-5. They are open from 9-2. The best authentic mexican food I've had.

Sunset cliffs is another good place to watch the sunset.

There are a lot of cool resturants right on the beach in Del Mar.

Kono's or World Famous in PB for breakfast.

If you play golf and your GF is working during the day on Friday, play Torrey Pines in La Jolla.

George's at the Cove in La Jolla is a must for dinner, and El Indio near Old Town is a SD institution with great Mexican food.

I agree .... George's. It will go a long way later in the evening. Call now for reservations at sunset.

Actually took my family there for vacation last summmer. Most relaxing place in the U.S. Stayed at the Marriot Resort on Coronado. Ate at a lot of family places.

I hear the bar at the Hotel Del Coronado is awesome. Great hotel.

There is a hotel downtown, just to the north of the baseball stadium. It's right across the street from the outfield entrances. Anyway, I forget the name, but it is a high rise hotel with a great outdoor bar on top. Place has a giant firepit in the middle and lots of low seating. You can look straight down on the stadium. Just ask around. Everyone downtown knew about the place. I second Whiskey Girl. Good sports bar that morphs into a live music venue at night.

The zoo and the Wild Animal Park are pretty much must dos when in San Diego. It's fun to take a stroll through Seaport Village, Old Town, and Balboa Park. The USS Midway is fantastic, if you're into that (I'm from a Navy family, so it's right up my alley). Point Loma / Cabrillo National Monument and Mount Soledad have great views of the city. Definitely go to La Jolla. You can usually see tons of seals hanging out at the Children's Beach and it's a great place to watch the sunset. These pictures were all taken at La Jolla.







I highly recommend the Bali Hai restaurant on Shelter Island if you want a great view of the city while you dine. The food and drinks there were great. http://www.balihairestaurant.com/index.htm

All this is great advice. I've been living in San Diego three months now and will use this thread to plan future weekends. Of everything mentioned I've only been to La Jolla.

I went there once, three years ago for our first anniversary. Agree with all that it is an awesome and relaxing place... perfect weather.

Wish I went somewhere in La Jolla, but didn't make it there. Hung out a lot at sea port village. The best thing we did was went for drinks at the Hotel Del Corodando. That place is very very nice. We had some drinks (what I think was) the main bar, really cool. From there you have access to the beach which I particularly liked since it was my first time to see the Pacific (most of San Diego you are looking out over the bay).

During the day a Harbor Cruise is also not a bad way to spend a couple of hours.

We were on a harbor cuise once when the Navy launched one of the nucular subs. That was an awesome experience.

I'll second the Harbor Excursion, too. Or maybe it's third... Either way, it's a good time. If you're at all interested in military aircraft, there's a good chance you'll see a lot. We had our own personal air show on ours. F-18s, T-45, EA-6B, S-3, and tons of SH-60s flying right over the boat from NAS North Island. I have more pictures of the aircraft than the scenery, but, I am an aerospace engineer...

Just went there last month for the anniversary. I agree--most relaxing place to be. Do go to La Jolla--so much scenery. I have those same seal pictures. Have an In and Out burger. San Diego zoo is great...be sure to spend the extra couple of bucks for the bus that takes you around the zoo--it's huge.

I wish I could have stayed longer and saw more but I just enjoyed driving around and taking in the weather and scenery. I will definitely go back.
