Going through the season with Eovaldi and deGrom is crazy. You know you are going to get a great outing, so, it's like, "if only we can get a good start by <insert SP>, tomorrow we deGrom. Or Eovaldi. And when a guy like Rocker gives you 5.0 IP, 1 ER performances, you go "and tomorrow we get Eovaldi."

I don't want to get the cart>horse, but I'm liking what we have.

For the Cubbies series:

Eovaldi 1.20 ERA
Steele: 6.89 ERA

Corbin: 1st GS
Taillon: 6.97 ERA

Mahle: 1.35 ERA
Imanaga: 0.98 ERA

We get Imanaga, but miss Matthew Boyd.

And I agree with the consensus on there that if those contract terms are correct for Guerrero, that is a bad deal for Toronto. They will likely regret the back half of that contract.

Just looked at the weather.

While it is projected to be 34F at 6pm, it is supposed to "feel" like 24F. Winds blowing from the NNE at 15-20mph during the game, if I'm seeing it correctly which means it will blow in from CF.

Need to play small ball and get some runners.

I predict a game time of less than 2hrs. If I'm pitching... I'm getting ready to go quickly.

BTW, chance of early showers around 11am and 1pm.

That sounds miserable. I really despised playing baseball in cold weather when I was a kid. Absolutely sucks.

While it still sucks, it sucks a little less if you make 10 million dollars.

I'd be out there playing CF in a carhart jacket and coveralls haha

Really odd, since the Cubs used to exclusively play day games. There was a reason for that.

Remember him going a few really good innings last opening day against us before he got hurt.

Yeah, they probably assume they will be the better cold weather team than the boys from Texas. At least Eovaldi should have some decent cold weather pitching experience.

Let's piece together some mostly irrelevant statistics that have no context or true correlation and just throw out some wild stats.

Eovaldi:
M/A: 43G, 3.47 ERA
May: 36G, 3.45 ERA
Jun: 47G, 4.49 ERA
Jul: 55G, 4.12 ERA
Aug: 62G, 4.40 ERA
S/O: 53G, 4.12 ERA

Steele:
M/A: 19G, 3.38 ERA
May: 23G, 4.53 ERA
Jun: 14G, 2.33 ERA
Jul: 13G, 2.93 ERA
Aug: 19G, 2.74 ERA
S/O: 13G, 4.43 ERA

None of that correlates to Home/Away and Indoor/Outdoor. Nor does it consider Game time temp.

At a minimum, it does indicate Steele gets off to a slow start and it is still early.

But, it could say the advantage is greatly in Eovaldi's favor in that his ERA is almost 1.0 higher in warmer months and Steele is almost 2.0 ERA lower in the warm months.

I would conclude with I hope Seager gets a day off today. Last thing I want is a muscle strain/pull in the cold. I would also put in Pillar to start over either Langford or Adolis.

Yes - he was great up until the injury. He was trying to field a ball or put a tag down on the first base line. Something weird like that.

Yeah I definitely don't think we win opening day if he didn't get hurt. Sucks for him because he was trying to build off of a really successful 2023 and was looking great.

Working good for me. I guess make sure you have a good wfi connection since you are streaming through the mlb app. I'm on the Victory app, and all is good, so far as least.

I'll just say the MLB app has been crap this season. There are so many bugs, at least on Roku (and maybe it is a Roku issue, I don't know).

This has been a rough inning all around.

100%. I couldn't get the game to play until the 3rd inning, keep getting the "Event About To Start" screen. I fired off a not-so-nice email to customer support.

Eovaldi already at 51 pitches through 3, and hasn't looked great. Eventually the rangers catchers will be able to throw out a steal, right?

Only allowed a run there, which is a win.

We bailed out Steele by being impatient this inning. What did he throw, 8 pitches? Not getting to the BP quick that way.

4 stolen bases, so far? None have even been close to being thrown out.
