my take is that there were talks on an extension and during that he hired Boras to extract another couple dollars. They are no longer in talks.MaxPower said:

Something like this:
'26 - 8 M (arb buyout)
'27 - 16 M (arb buyout)
'28 - 27 M
'29 - 27 M
'30 - 27 M

That kind of deal doesn't make sense for Pena based on their ages and years of control left.Ag_07 said:

Make it 7, up it to 30 M in '28 & '29, drop it the last 3 years by a little. (I don't know what the new total is in my proposal)Farmer1906 said:That seems like a fair deal at this point.B-Rabbit said:The #Astros and SS Jeremy Peña were deep in contract extension discussions for a deal exceeding $105 million over 5 years, multiple sources tell KPRC 2. pic.twitter.com/o6u37j79op

Well his price is going up. You have to weigh pros and cons for extensions. Had we been willing to do this deal before the season (aka before he proved he could be a well above average hitter) then it may get done. If I'm him right now I wouldn't sign that deal. It may be a reasonable estimate of his arbitration years but why am I giving up 3 free agent years for $81M?Farmer1906 said:That seems like a fair deal at this point.B-Rabbit said:The #Astros and SS Jeremy Peña were deep in contract extension discussions for a deal exceeding $105 million over 5 years, multiple sources tell KPRC 2. pic.twitter.com/o6u37j79op

Any thoughts on bringing back J-Hey?

I'm gonna be so sad if they don't extend him. We have to sign at least some of our homegrown talent outside of Altuve, Yordan, and LMJ.

It's my standard reaction to hearing Enos Cabell's name. My mom hasn't forgiven him for swinging at Ball 4 to end the 1980 NLCS.BCEDAg said:The Original Houston 1836 said:

Ok - sorry to hear that. What the hell does that have to do with his career year in 1978?

Or we don't have the right players to do it with. This board would have lost their damn kinds of we extended Brown before last year or if we extended Yainer now.

Dana came from an organization that is known for locking up their young stars at reasonable contracts before they hit arbitration… Why has that mentality stopped once he got here?

Which contracts? Extensions or free agent contracts?n_touch said:I wouldn't if I was him. Boras has been solid the last couple years with the contracts he's gotten his client's.Ag_07 said:

Sending love to Ketel Marte who was in tears on the field after a fan yelled something at him about his mother, who passed away in a car accident in 2017, per @CDrottar19 pic.twitter.com/I14Zc1gkV1
