There is just no understanding how this lineup keeps winning. I just don't get it or see how we keep doing it. But I'll take it.

Tonight was easy - 9 innings of 1 run ball gives you a chance to beat anyone with a single swing, AAAA roster be damned.

(I know what you mean though)

wow, another improbable unsustainable win

I was thinking the same thing, but then again wasn't that the 13th Framber start in a row we've won (5 with us scoring 2 or less, and just 3 tonight)?

His starts have thankfully been sustainable notwithstanding the run support.

Listening to 610am, Seth and Payne, they said for the younger audience they have no idea what is what like to not know any players and we lost 100+ games. Now they're winning games with players nobody knows. Great time to be a 'stros fan...but we need players back

Astros have very good pitching and offense isn't the greatest but 2nd in batting average, 4th in hits, and 10th in OPS

No way Altuve makes that play. Brice is the sole reason we're going for a sweep tomorrow.

Someone ask Dana why it took 16 injuries for this kid to get a look.

maybe the 790 guys will tomorrow

would be funny

3 runs on 10 hits is not good

1 run on 10 hits is awful. Thank you Dbacks

Altuve's speed was on display tonight.

Bunt single
Beat out a throw by the diving 3B
1st to 3rd on what I thought was a fairly shallow single
Took home on a ball that rolled not too far away

Arizona now with 18 hits (including a HR and 5 doubles) and 8 walks for 4 runs in 2 games.

Let's sneak the last one by.

Arrighetti and Gordon should tandem. L/R and it cuts some innings off Gordon. Walter gets sent to SL to not pitch for 2 weeks. If CJ is next he tandems with Gusto. Who knows about Luis if/when that happens but if it does he goes to the pen in place of Hernandez or whoever the worst guy is.

When Pena comes back Short goes. Leave Dubon at 3B because Whitcomb is just not good enough. At the first OFer to return Hummel goes away. I think Trammell sticks the rest of the season. If (big if) Yordan comes back he's the DH so Jose plays LF. Trammell plays CF until Jake comes back.

It was either him or Gusto. I expect we will see them both.

I'm fascinated by Altuve becoming a totally different hitter batting third. He batted .278 in 26 games batting leadoff, then .222 in 21 games batting 2nd, but nobody noticed because Pena was going off.

Tonight was Jose's 51st game batting third. The numbers:

191 AB
32 R
59 H
8 2B
1 3B
13 HR
38 RBI
19 BB
31 K
Average: .309
Slugging: .565
On-Base: .370
OPS: .935

Obviously just crushing it across the board. If you did his 51-game paces for R, HR, and RBI - he's a 102 R, 25 HR, 121 RBI guy. That's insane for his age and stature. While he should already be a HOFer, a transition to hitting third where he racks up some bigger RBI and HR totals makes him a lock in anyone's book.

It's still a really small sample size, but it reminds me a lot of late-career Paul Molitor who also went from leadoff to third.

Molitor played 1,573 games battig leadoff and hit an even .300 with an .804 OPS, almost 2,000 hits and 370 steals.

He started primarily batting third in his last years in Milwaukee. He played 867 games batting third and hit .318 with an .840 OPS. Molitor had his first 100+ RBI season and 20+ HR season at age 36 with Toronto and then had 113 RBI despite only 9 HR in 1996 at age 39 for the Twins.

I think the bigger issue is who we DFA to create room on the 40 to bring the pitchers back. I think Contreras and Hernandez are the 1st 2 pitchers on the chopping block. If Luis/JP comes back, it's another cut and we'd need to option someone or cut Neris.

Also, I really wish we could have spaced out these rehab assignments more to set up Luis or JP to comeback in late August after you see what Arrighetti or CJ do or September when rosters expand so we didn't have to option anyone. Right now, they're all on the 30 day rehab clock, so you're going to have to make 4 decisions at basically the same time without knowing if they're fully recovered.

Dana should trade Rogers for a couple of lotto tickets before the trade deadline, too.

ETA: I guess Dubin and Melton could be transferred to the 60 day IL saving a couple of cuts.

so starting with the Twins series in June...

the Astros have won games via:

- Cam walkoff vs. the Twins
- Dubon walkoff vs. the Twins
- wild pitch in extras vs. the Angels
- Hummel 8th inning homer vs. the Phillies
- Cam 8th inning single vs. the Phillies
- Zack Short walkoff vs. the Rangers
- Brice 2-homer game vs. D-Backs
- Brice 8th inning homer vs. D-Backs

quite remarkable

Is also pretty amazing he can go from a bit of a slugger back to a "put it in play and beat it to 1st" hitter when the team needs a guy on base

You can recut Big Jon. And watch Linzy melt down. If you think/know that Isaac or Jake can't return they could go on the 60 day but that's going to be hard.

Cut Rodgers if you have to. Or trade him for cash. Maybe Luis get traded? Or France? Or both in a package for a hitter?

Dubon once again silencing the haters, with his near par OPS+ with the ability to fill in at 13 different defensive positions with plus defense.
