He almost went to the Angels with Ron Washington this past year. Hopefully that's not the only staff shakeup.

Do you know the reason to why he won't be returning?

Wasn't he a SS at that time?
And I don't think the Astros were going to bench Lance Berkman for him.
He only ever played a handful of games at SS as a pro.

I don't think they would have benched Berkman or Biggio for him...or Morgan Ensberg who at that time was briefly the best 3b in baseball, but I'm sure he would have hit his way into PT somewhere and I would have loved to have seen him hit major league pitching in his prime.

That late 00s Stros era was sad and frustrating and if he had been in the organization at that time, I'm sure Ed Wade would have eventually traded him to the Phillies for a bag of BP baseballs.

It sure felt like we traded everyone to the Phillies and got maybe Michael Bourn in return…

Was not told a reason. Few other lower level staff members too.

okay I think I like this crossover idea from the NBA play-in, especially since there usually isn't much distance between #3/4 seeds. Although I think the better record should host, with the division winner having the "consolation" of an attempt vs 5/6 even if they lose G1. I'm sure it would never happen, but an interesting idea.

The issue is that MLB playoffs look nothing like the regular season.

The regular season is about pitching depth. The playoffs largely don't have anything to do with that. Certainly a 3 or 5 game series doesn't.

The hot team can beat the regular season winner by not getting a weak 3/4/5 starter or bullpen depth exposed.

It happens over and over every year.

If you don't want that to happen then either don't let those teams in or make them win a 7 game series every time. With no days off. Make pitching depth important.

Shorten the season to allow the time to do this and I'm sold

I'd go back to the 5 teams and instead of a 1 game WC, do best of 3

that means all three division winners get the bye and 4/5 play each other in the best of 3 series

late to the party...

what a crushing playoff exit for the Phillies

from the WS to NLCS to NLDS

all 7 players making over $20 MM will be back next year...another year older

I think that's the real answer. Shorten the season, all 3 rounds are either 7 game series with one off travel day or 5 games all played consecutively.

That is more of a baseball schedule.

It's what Dave Dombrowski does best... Build a team full of guys whose contracts will are like curdled milk

I don't know why, but I've found myself rooting against the Tigers this postseason.

Maybe it's that they beat the Astros, and I'm ready for some of their magic to run out.

I'm just the opposite. They are a nobody team and AJ is managing the crap out of them right now. I hope he wins it. They have no shot in a 7 game series with their pitching but stranger things have happened.

I'm of the mindset that the only reason the astros
Astros were knocked out was because the winner of the WS knocked them out.

Yeah, I get it. AJ is doing a hell of a job for sure.

Just means an easier path to the WS for the Yankees should they win and the Yankees wrap it up against the Royals tonight.

My opinion is that they should shorten the season and make the playoffs all 7 game series….

It would also be interesting to see a best of 9 series for the WS

Why have the streaming apps been two batters behind this postseason? I don't recall that last year and it's not the way the regular season is. Right now the tbs stream sucks.

My experience is that streaming apps are always 30-60 seconds behind cable (maybe a bit less for satellite but not much).

Is this like when Luhnow pissed folks off again and got rid of all or most of their scouts? At least that's what I recall.

Almost as good as the 90s when we traded 40 guys at a time to either the Padres or the Tigers.

Fortunately, I wasn't able to follow it that closely at the time. I was probably more worried about what kind of snack the mom's brought after the game.

Are the Yankees happier that they made the ALCS or that they don't have to play the Astros?

None of that surprises me given the general operating approach since Luhnow left. It's Crane, Crane's puppets, and everyone else is minutiae. I can only hope Dana obtains just enough trust / control to right this ship before long term destruction occurs (aka 2009-2014).
