Unless he takes another team friendly deal (he absolutely shouldn't) there isn't a chance in hell we pony up the kind of money it would take to keep him

I notice the guy is sitting all by himself. His family/friends won't even sit with him.

Anyone observed trying to start the wave should be escorted out and given a lifetime ban.
Hating on the wave is un-American. Baseball by its nature is a slow game. Sometimes you just need the wave. And besides, this isn't golf where everyone has to just sit there and whisper.
The wave was invented by Seattle football fans, good enough reason for it never to happen at MMP!

Lot of spoiled 21st century Astro fans here hating on the wave.

Other than 80/86, we had some long stretches in the Dome where we'd average 1 homer every 2 or 3 games and the wave was about the only thing that got a stir out of people in the great cavernous outfield sections. Back then, when a man was a man, my entire family could go to the game for $11 ($4 adult tickets, $1 child tickets in the pavillion and $1 parking), and you could smoke in the stadium, leading to a festive haze of smog hanging over Cesar Cedeno / Billy Hatcher by the 7th.

The only thing wrong with the wave is timing -- and regardless -- I hate the wave.

If your team is trailing by 3 or more, or if the game is close: Do not start the wave.

If your team is up by 3 or so late: The Wave is ok.

What a bunch of grumpy old men (and Matt Thomas wannabes). Y'all should go catch a PGA event. It sounds more your style.

Maybe if they were threatening to do the wave at Kyle, you might change your views.

Could you imagine the meltdown if in a tie game in the 4th and we start the wave while Reed is trying to move the ball downfield? TA would crash.

Yeah. It's not like there are 5 guys in white prison coveralls trying to get 35 thousand students to cheer in unison.

The extension part of the deal was 3/80 plus a signing bonus so more like 3/90 since it came early.

Or in this case, NOT cheer at all until the play has started.

Put this on the Chisox thread, but pretty relevant since the AL Central is such a point of interest.

They are bizarrely competitive 5-8 vs the Indians. However Chicago is 1-12 vs KC, 1-12 vs. Minnesota, and 1-9 vs Detroit with 3 games to go. Yep, those 3 teams are a combined 33-3 against the White Sox.

AL Central standings for top 4 (all games)

Cleveland 89-65
Kansas City 82-71
Minnesota 80-73
Tigers 80-73

AL Central standings for top 4 (without White Sox games)
Cleveland 81-60
Kansas City 70-70
Minnesota 68-72
Detroit 71-72

I feel if Crane is still owning the team by then we'll keep Yordan. Would he let a potential HOF level hitter walk? It might be a Judge/NYY situation but I think we would get another deal done.

Too much could change between now and then. Look at Trout, Pujols, Miggy, and so so many guys that signed a mega deal in their early 30s and never got close to being worth it. I think a 9 year Yordan would go into the HOF as an Astro without playing his entire career.
The Porkchop Express

Yordan would need to basically never have another injury season, or at least not until when he's past age 35, lead the league in several categories, and win 2-3 MVPs to make the Hall of Fame down the line. I love Yordan to death, but he's in the Hall of Good / Very Good in the grand scheme of things right now. The post-season stuff would certainly help if he's on the cusp, but you need giant, consistent, league-leading #s over and over to make the HOF. Not playing much defense won't help him either.

He's already 40% of the way to David Ortiz's career bWAR and should be in his peak prime for several more years. It'll be fun to track as his FA gets closer.

This. When one team hates their city, and wants out, they tank, and it upsets the balance of the division. We have been the recipient of that from the As for several years.

Yordan may never get close enough for some of the milestone counting #s, but as long as he's 65% better than the league avg then he's a lock for the HOF.

Yordan's first 626 PA (2019-2024) is not all that different from Trout's first 652 PA (2011-2015)

Stat: Yordan - Trout
wRC+: 165 - 166
HR: 163 - 139
RBI: 465 - 397
Hits: 677 - 744
OPS: .970 - .956
Off WAR: 195.0 - 251.1

Trout was younger and a much better defender. Yordan isn't Trout overall, but he's as good offensively. If he continues this for another 6 seasons with slightly better health (avg 120 games vs 105) then I think he's got an extremely good case.

Not that WAR is everything, but just for a starting point the average HOFer has 4.8 WAR per 162 and Yordan has 6.1...so by that standard his quality is far above even HOF averages.

The key is, like you said, staying healthy. I can see him being productive as a DH into his late 30s and that's probably what it would take to get to the total counting stats that the idiot voters like. There are a lot of HOFers (even DH-first guys) that didn't have MVPs or a lot of league-leading numbers. But yes, I think you either need to have those or play long enough to have impressive totals.

I do think that the standards will change with this generation that isn't juicing and therefore you're not going to get the Nelson Cruz types peaking in their mid 30s.

Last 11 games Houston is 6-5. Also in those last 11 games, Yordan is hitting:

.186/.280/.349 with a 69 (nice) wRC+ in 50 PA

Bregman in 46 PA is .190/.261/.357 and 70 wRC+

Need more from those guys.

Don't worry, next time we are up by 4+, Bregman will juice those numbers to make em look better.

Last pitch LMJ was October 2022

We are in September 2024

We DGAF about "playing catch" at this point. Until he's on the mound in a game it doesn't matter what update they give
