Curious to see how JV pitches vs Cinci. Reds are not a great team but they have a few guys who like to run if they can get on base. Have been to that park a few times and it's easy to hit HR's there.
BTW, skyline chili sucks. I don't know how anyone calls that crap chili with cinnamon and spaghetti.

Royce Lewis is back, all he does is hit clutch homers when he happens to not be broken (not often enough)

Magic number calculation

Games left - games up in loss column + 1

25-6+1 = 20

This doesn't take tie breakers into consideration. Just what it would take to end up with the same record at the end of the season.

Cintron looked choked up
I got surprisingly emotional for that. A bit of a realization that in the next 10 years we're going to be doing that a lot with retirement ceremonies and jersey retirements, and a couple of HoF inductions as well.

Surprised they didn't include the Game 4 homer off Kershaw in '17 in the package. For me at least, this was the moment where I realized we had a really good shot at winning.

June 18th: Mariners had won 8 of 9 and were 44-31 (.595). They are 25-37 (.403) since.

June 18th: Astros were 33-40 (.452), and proceeded to win 7 in a row and 17 of their next 21 games. Since June 18th, 'Stros are 42-22 (.656)

If we had just started April .500 we'd have that first bye almost locked up at this point.

But then we may Not cut Abreu. I think it'll work itself out in the end regardless

That's true. Addition by subtraction there

That's a 101 season pace...and even during that time, we have missed significant pieces for significant amounts of time. Makes you wonder what this team could do if injuries were not part of the picture

From Chandler Rome in the Athletic:

"Not for 56 years had a pitching staff supplied dominance like the Houston Astros did in August. Across 28 games, it posted a 2.51 ERA, struck out 291 batters and limited opponents to a .185 batting average the lowest in any month since Cleveland held hitters to a .174 mark in May 1968."

It almost feels like the baseball gods looked at the number guy's post in the trash-talk thread and said, "Oh really??? Watch this!!"

and we still *****ed about Abreu, Pressley and Hader in here

Whenever I see we're playing the Reds, I have PTSD flashbacks to the time in 1989 when they scored 14 runs in the first inning against us. A still-standing MLB record.

Here's 11-year-old Dan Patrick on Sports Center. If you knew the Astros back then, it should come as no surprise that Jim Clancy got the start and failed to get an out, giving up 7 earned runs on 6 hits. Bob Forsch then came in and pitched a 7-inning 18-hitter.

I can't see how long-time, long suffering Astros fans of a certain vintage like us DON'T get a little emotional watching that. Yuli meant a lot to our golden era and his Game 5 homer is probably number five on my list of most important and impactful during this era.

Never gave it much thought but it makes sense that the Reds are the opponent the Astros have faced the most often since they were the only team which were in the same division throughout the entirety of Houston's time in the NL

The Yuli HR and then Altuve's later in the game gave me the same sort of feeling I had in the waning seconds of the Rockets' Game 7 win over the Knicks when you realized the curse of Houston sports was coming to an end.

When the Rockets had gone up 6 on NY with about 15 seconds left, I found myself feeling so out of sports, almost dizzy, realizing that they couldn't lose. there was not a way to blow it.

Tucker returning this week would give him ~20 games and a month to get back to speed, which seems reasonable

With a 6 game lead I'd let him rest a bit more. Keep him out this series if you can

We should be able to win 2/3 without him against Cincy
