And extra too.

He's been a different guy in save situations.

Hader has pitched in 4 extra inning games. All of them he came into the game in the ninth and then also pitched the tenth. He was the winning pitcher in all of these games.

Right now you'd think we had Seattle's rotation the way our starters have been kicking ass. Hopefully JV can continue the dominance but man if our bats wake up, watch the f*** out!

Bregman is now up to 2nd best in fWAR on the team for the season.

fWAR:
Alvarez - 3.8
Bregman - 3.2
Tucker - 3.1
Altuve - 2.9
Valdez - 2.4
Pena - 2.3

bWAR:
Alvarez - 3.8
Tucker - 3.6
Blanco - 3.4
Pena - 2.9
Bregman - 2.7
Altuve - 2.7

https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/HOU/2024.shtml

I'd love to see Altuve get back on track. He's already passed his career high in strikeouts, and his OBP and slugging percentage (discounting the COVID season) are his worst since 2013.

Breg's is going to get paid next season by someone. With him turning it on late that's all anyone is going to remember. They will completely forget him crapping the bed first half of the season.

I was just looking at Altuve and trying to figure out the problem.

He's hitting the ball in the air, hitting line drives, pulling it, similar barrel rate, similar EV, similar HH%, etc. All signs he should be about as he has been.

But here is where he's different in a significant way. He's swinging more often at the first pitch & outside of the zone. While he's been a bad ball hitter, he's missing outside of the zone more often. His strikeouts are up and his newly found ('22 & '23) ability to draw walks has gone away.

That's good news as far as the metrics and it seems like a relatively easy thing to fix - just stop headhunting the first pitch unless it's one you're sitting on in the zone.

6 game homestand against CWS and BOS.

4-2, I'm ok with it
5-1, I'm happy
6-0, LFG baby!

I guess a lot more filler is required when there are a total of 4 hits in a game and not really any web gems.

NL West is going to be fun to watch. AZ and SD are hot right now and I'd love to see one of them win the division over LA.

If the season ended today we would be hosting the Royals in the wild card and matched up with the Yankees in the ALDS.

Was in Vegas last week and saw the Padres were 25-1 to win the world series, which I felt was unbelievable for a team that is absolutely going to be in the playoffs. Took a flyer on them so I have a rooting interest in an NL team. Of course, I'd love to lose that bet if it means the Astros get number 3.

Living in NWA, I'll be at JV's rehab start tonight. My best friend mailed his Hooks jersey for me to wear. Will take photos to share.

There's no way that clears the MLBPA. It's also extremely stupid. So now that I say that it probably is a Manfred idea.

So many areas this goes wrong.

I don't like it because it forces teams to suffer through when a good pitcher doesn't have "it". Also, with all the elbow injuries we've seen recently, this would only make it worse IMO

Somehow i've underestimated the stupidity of MLB, even after all this time. Thank goodness the Astros' golden era started before BS like this.

It's idiotic.

Get hurt? Keep going.
Get lit up? Keep going
Have a high pitch count? Keep going.

might as well encourage forfeits after that.

Gotta remember, Manfred wants to shorten the games as much as possible. so if thats the end goal, lets add in a run rule too.

I liked his idea of if you pull your SP before the 6th, you lose the DH. But then does the DH comeback after the 6th? Do you PH someone for the pitcher after the 6th?

just like 'the pitch comm breaking' has become a free time out. This will look a lot like CFB where the pitcher suddenly flops after the dugout gives them a signal.

We won…but what the hell was Espada doing in the 10th???

Should have PH Caratini for Zach, then let Singleton take over 1B

Not PH Caratini for Chas obv criminal. Also leaving Zach in at 1B after getting the lead…

From what I saw, if you claim injury, its an automatic IL stint. My concern would be that would cause pitchers to pitch through injury trying to not come out to get hurt worse.

Maybe a rule that a SP that starts an inning before throwing 6 has to face 3 batters in the inning before being pulled (to minimize managers running the SP out with the intent to face 1 batter).

I don't know. At some point (and it feels that point has been passed)
the tinkering is just mindless

There are proposed exceptions that seem to conform to how pitchers are usually pulled today.

https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-reportedly-weighing-six-inning-requirement-for-starting-pitchers-how-mandatory-outings-could-work/

Quote:

. . .
At first blush, it might sound ridiculous because of the possibility that a pitcher could carry an excessively heavy workload in early innings, got completely shelled or fall injured. In any of those cases, shouldn't a team be allowed to remove the starting pitcher?
Sure enough, the report indicates that the exceptions to the proposed six-inning minimum could include:
  • Throwing 100 pitches
  • Giving up four or more earned runs
  • Getting injured (with a required injured list stint to avoid manipulation)
. . .

Pitchers who give up 4 ERs are usually pulled if spiraling, and if you labor to 100 pitches in less than 6 innings the pitchers are usually pulled too. The biggest change looks like it would be making pitchers go 100 pitches rather than 80-90 if less than 6 innings, and the injury list stint (presumably 10 days) for a pitcher that is removed as a precaution.

I don't like it and hope it isn't implemented, but it's really 6 innings or 100 pitches if your pitcher isn't sucking.

What a dumb rule that would be, they better not pass this, MLB must want to extend game times because that's what will happen when these terrible pitchers have to lob balls over the plate and hope there team plays some good defense … they cannot be this dumb

This is not in the interest of the game!

This is so Manfred can read about himself in the games's history books!!

There is already a rule that a pitcher has to pitch to 3 batters minimum.
