It would legit be awesome to see some of these guys swing some of these college bats in the HR derby.

It will never happen, but I've always wanted to see an aluminum bat MLB Homerun derby at Coors field

With the old nuclear bats too

I'd rather go the other way. Why can't MLB sponsor wood bats for college and get them to use the same ball? Would seem to provide better intel on players to draft.

That would make college baseball an awful product to watch.

This doesn't seem fair.

https://www.si.com/mlb/mariners/news/seattle-mariners-reportedly-make-major-revelation-on-plans-for-julio-rodriguez-by-saying-they-want-to-play-him-at-designated-hitter-when-he-returns-from-injury

Quote:

. . .
The Seattle Mariners are reportedly looking to use superstar Julio Rodriguez as a designated hitter as a way to get him back faster from a high-ankle sprain that has kept him out since just past the All-Star break.

Rodriguez has been testing his ankle in the cage and reportedly feels no pain there, but he's only just recently started to do running exercises and doesn't appear to be that comfortable yet.
. . .
While it seems obvious that Rodriguez still isn't ready to return to center field, sources indicate the Mariners are hoping to activate Rodriguez from the injured list in the coming days and use him as the designated hitter to add some more punch to their lineup.
. . .
I strenuously object, although he wasn't exactly lighting the world on fire this season.

Because half of them won't be drafted anyways. So it would really water down the game

So a guy who doesn't hit a ton of home runs but instead relies on speed and athleticism to contribute comes back with no speed or athleticism trying to hit bombs

Ranger fans are now saying the team may be underperforming partly because they are "worn out" from last year.

They jumped all over me for claiming that was an issue with the Astros in the ALCS last year. I think it is different when you go to 7 straight ALCS, 4 WS and win 2 championships.

But one year of playoff ball after spending years on the beach -- that'll wear you out.

Any word on what day JV will be in Sugar Land? I've seen both Friday and Saturday mentioned, but haven't seen a specific day yet.

There's a JV promo Saturday, so I would put my money on Saturday.

Yeah, I saw that JV bobblehead day has been scheduled for a while, so I assume that would be the day.

Just shows how out of shape they are and how little stamina they have. Reminds me of a good joke.

Lol, yeah, now imagine a team making the LCS for 7 straight seasons, 4 WS, and a few players also playing in the WBC last year. Must be superhuman.

What do you guys think the odds are that McCullers pitches another 50 innings in the pros in his career

Look at the Rangers offense numbers vs last yr. The league figured them out.

Or changed the pitch com frequencies randomly at their home field.

the Mariners did not give the Tigers a getaway day start today

granted the flight to San Fran is only 2 hours, but the Tigers won't get to their hotel until 3am or so.

interesting...that next Thursday when Seattle plays at Detroit...the Mariners will get an afternoon start from the Tigers

(before the M's very short flight to Pittsburgh for their Friday game)

Yea, ok. The manager is the problem here. Not the wretched roster construction, bare farm system, horrible front office, and fossil of an owner.
Signs Maldy to start at catcher after a historically awful year and blames the manager for not winning. We sure the White Sox are not a Cleveland based team? At the same time, dude is not a good manager.

Perfect opportunity to bring back the Player/Manger with Maldy

Pretty sure the league has some kind of rules in place that determine game times based on travel. The Rangers used to have a lot of Sunday evening starts because of playing outdoors in the 100 weather, but other teams complained about short turnaround times from a Sunday night game to a game somewhere else the following day. The league stopped allowing them to do that, and for the last several years at their old ballpark, day baseball was played in Arlington on getaway days.

All that being said, why the game next Thursday is a day game when both teams stay in the Eastern time zone the following day is intriguing.
