Would y'all feel the same way if Bloss was still in AA? (although we might not be trading for Kikuchi in that case) Not really judging the deal until the terms are complete, but I feel like the dog pile here is a little intense.

Dana when speaking with Blum and to yesterday made it pretty clear he's not worried about reloading the farm and drafting pitchers. Bloss is young and still has plenty of what if's. This move doesn't bother me at all. They got a veteran starter and someone who can eat some innings. Something this team desperately needs with all the young guys throwing so many innings already. Hopefully JV returns to form and we pick up another bullpen piece

But other trades don't matter when it comes to evaluating THIS one. IF (acknowledging we have no official word yet) we gave up 6 years of Bloss for Kikuchi, then we got robbed and would have been better off letting Bloss keep starting down the stretch.

Even if we make other better moves, why would you make a bad deal? An innings eater is useful only if you get him without giving up pitching back, OR if the guy acquired has control remaining.

Trading controllable pitching for subpar expiring pitching makes NO sense.

Is your reason vibes based? He's underperformed his peripherals this year and should be a solid innings eater the rest of the way, I'm not sure what we could've done better than that expectation.

There's a reason Seattle let Kikuchi go too - he wasn't good for them either.
Very disappointed that this was the best pitcher we could obtain for a two month rental. I'm in the camp that Dana felt pressured to get a deal done and this is what we get. At this point I'm not impressed but hopefully tomorrow will bring better results, like a right handed bat to platoon at first base.

The only positive is that Kikuchi has pitched better than his numbers suggest (ridiculous BABIP) and his peripherals look normal. FIP is decent.

But it still just feels like a panic move.

A bad series in Boston for Seattle could be just as meaningful as a marginal trade upgrade the rest of the season. Timing of these things matter, of course. Stay the course, friends.

We all thought it was a great trade but I do remember it being like "gave up some good prospects but will be worth it"

Yusei leads baseball is ERA-FIP and has been "unlucky" when looking at his expected #s. We should see some favorable regression. His rolling xwOBA over the last 100 pa is trending down. He strikes guys out. He doesn't walk a bunch. If we ignore what we gave up, there is plenty to like about Kikuchi.
