Espada said the Astros lined up their rotation for this series with the "next couple" in mind. One result is lining up Framber Valdez and Ronel Blanco to start the first two games against the Dodgers. Both would get an extra day of rest with the off-day before the homestand.

I think they mean there's no structure left so nothing can be "damaged". His arm is effectively a tentacle with a hand attached.
