in part because the 'stros don't have a replacement waiting in the wings

You'd pass on a numberless offer…?
High school teammates with Kyle Tucker. Stretched out to 80-90 pitches. Astros have seen him a ton in spring training and are in need of anyone with a healthy arm. https://t.co/s0DZTtSca1

whoa, Keith Law is a huge Bregman fan
thinks a 5-year deal would be appropriate
didn't say at what AAV though
He's got a 10.80 ERA on the year. Ouch...sucks to have to be fishing in the bargain bucket for guystexasaggie2015 said:
They know the White Sox players very well so it wouldn't surprise me. I haven't heard his name specifically on my end but obviously that doesn't mean anything.
Marlins, White Sox and Blue Jays are three teams that we've been talking to. There might be more, but those are the three I know for sure.
There is zero chance I am signing Bregman to a 5 year deal right now unless 4 of the years are team option with no guaranteed money in them.tjack16 said:W said:

I'd still pass on that.
That is the part that just puzzles the hell out of me. We built a legit dynasty on player acquisitions and game decisions based on analytics, and we are just throwing it away now in favor of the "back of the baseball card". Can somebody explain why those decisions are being made? Does Crane just not understand how we got where we were?Deluxe said:
Given how much value Bregman puts into analytics/preparation and how far the Astros have fallen in that department since Click left, I'd be surprised if he even wants to be back.
The bolded part is what I am talking about. We have years of deep playoff runs and world series appearances. How can a team like Baltimore be out-resourcing us when it comes to getting the best people?texasaggie2015 said:
They're still very involved in analytics. I don't think there's many teams that aren't these days. Very few (if any) are as good and as advanced as the Luhnow regime.
I think the analytic world has advanced a lot since the Lunhow era and we just don't have the resources and people to keep up. Baltimore (led by a Lunhow guy) is a good example of an organization that's been able to keep up and adjust accordingly.
I would do very bad things to have Mike Elias back on board here in Houston.
Funny enough- Martin Maldonado was one of the driving forces behind the analytic side (more so in game prep and not as much scouting/evaluating) over the last few years.

I bet it irked Angel Hernandez for years he wasn't on hand to make that call. Probably would have called a balk on Cabrera for grabbing his balls right after.EastCoastAgNc said:14 years ago today, Armando Galarraga pitched a "28-out perfect game." pic.twitter.com/ZSfiEdAWKV

Still can't believe this happened...
The Astros announced that both José Urquidy and Cristian Javier underwent Tommy John surgery. The team had previously only said it would be "elbow surgery."
— Chandler Rome (@Chandler_Rome) June 7, 2024
Urquidy is not a part of any future plans in my book until he can play a full season healthy. We should never again go into a season expecting anything out of Urquidy or McCullers. Anything we get is considered a bonus.EastCoastAgNc said:The Astros announced that both José Urquidy and Cristian Javier underwent Tommy John surgery. Mentioned it here: the Astros' 2025 rotation and depth — barring more injuries or a softening of the "we'll never sell" stance — will include Valdez, McCullers, Garcia, Brown, Blanco, Arrighetti and France. Verlander, too, if (when) he reaches 140 IP - https://t.co/JEvLI4OFx1

Abreu will go into his last game 3 for 36 and then hit 4 home runs.
Kyle Tucker is doing better, but Joe Espada said the progress has been “slower than we expected.” He’s still day to day. Espada said he’s likely unavailable tonight.
