Mancini wasn't even considered a good 1B either. I am a fan of a really good defensive 1B. We just don't have one as an option. I'd love it if we could find a way to get Tre Morgan from Tampa Bay. LSU fans may remember him from last year's run but he's a stud defensive 1B. Will not be an elite bat but could be a Keith Hernandez lite type of player.

Trey Mancini is the perfect example

on baseball reference he has a negative dWAR for every season of his career -- every season

but his defense at first base was adequate for the Astros -- especially on that one play

They have him playing some third base. I would actually hold on to him and see if he keeps progressing especially with Bregman gone after this year.

I don't see an article or link to the audio but Keith Law went in dry on the Astros. Basically said the perception around the league is Dana is a puppet and Crane is running things with has cadre. Nothing we haven't said but interesting that other baseball people think the same thing.

I dunno how much trade value he has. As 2015 said, think you are better off seeing what you got and if he fails he fails. It's similar to Meyers or McCormick. They were never big prospects and probably wouldn't have gotten you anything when they were in the minors but have been valuable big leaguers. Sometimes guys just develop slowly or late (Giants are masters of finding those types).

In 3-4 years who do you see as the third baseman: Whitcomb, Dezenzo or Matthews…or a wildcard trade piece/FA signing

Those are our three main options as the next corner guys right?

Brice Matthews with another big game last night:

He's such a fascinating prospect. I'm not kidding when I say this. One guy I talk to regularly legitimately thinks he'll be a multiple time all-star and another one doesn't think he ever makes it past AA-AAA. He's very raw but his tools are off the charts.
