But I can say with certainty that they're actively exploring options to move Abreu.
Poor Joel...that's the second DFA for him this year I think (possible 3rd if you count the offseason).

This means Dubon is the only player on the roster who can back up Bregman & Pena. Anytime we use Dubon we need to keep him in the game so he's available to fill in if there is an injury. Meaning if he starts in the OF vs a LHP and we want to pinch hit for him because there is a nasty RHP in, we can't without risking not having a backup for the rest of the game. I would think this means Dubon is getting more of his reps in the INF when Altuve, Pena, and Bregman need time off. We haven't seen any get many days off their feet. I feel Jake has fallen victim to other guys not carrying their weight. He's the guy that was supposed to bat .235 to .250 and provide a little pop at the bottom of the lineup while playing solid defense. I thought he'd get more consistent playing time than he has so far this season.

He's not an all-star, but he's a really solid OFer that many teams wouldn't mind having.
For whatever reason, Espada isn't using Dubon as a utility guy, which would allow Jake to have a lot more ABs. Instead, he's taking CF ABs from Jake.AggiEE said:iBrad said:

I don't hate how Dusty used him. He played quite a bit. He wasn't as productive last year and I think part of that was still recovering from the shoulder injury. 112 games and 309 ABs ain't nothing. What drove me crazy was we didn't utilize his defense in late situations. We used Dubon.

José Abreu is not with the Astros, GM Dana Brown said. Both sides decided that Abreu will be optioned to West Palm Beach effective tomorrow “to get some at-bats and his timing back right.”

Normally he has to stay down 15 days, but if they put someone on the IL they can bring him back up. They just did that with Grae
Because the Astros are not going to option José Abreu until tomorrow, there is no corresponding move today. So the Astros will play a man down tonight. Jon Singleton will play first base tonight. Yes, Trey Cabbage is eligible to be recalled.
