We know Yordan is more DH than OFer.

Dubon is as much INF as OF. There are just more opportunities in the OF according to Joe's lineups.

Loperfido can also play 2B & 1B if needed.

I could say, so now we have 8 infielders.

Abreu, Singleton, Altuve, Loperfido, Dubon, Pena, Bregman, Caratini [assumes Kess is sent down]

Its more flexibility. We now have a left-handed bat that can play CF. When facing a RHP we can run out a lineup with 5 lefties or at least 3-4 more easily.

I mean you gotta dump SIngleton if Loprefido even has a pulse. If he can get around on some fastballs and isn't a disaster in the field, split him with struggling Chaz and dumb-dumb Jake and see what happens. Have Diaz and him start regularly working harder at 1B to give Captain Lou the loud and clear sign that if you don't figure this out, you're going bye bye.

With the way Chad has played this year it's selling low. And I doubt you get much for Jake unless the other GM is brain damaged.

Expected Stat Check-In



  • Yordan's regression is going to be fun.
  • Altuve seems to defy the expected #s every single year. Yuli was that way too.
  • Pena has some regression coming (sky-high babip, super low K rate he's never had, contact rate in and out of the zone up) BUT the way he's hitting the ball ain't a fluke.
  • Jake might have more in the tank. He just needs to get in the lineup.
  • Breggy, Chas, and Dubon (a little lucky so far)... UGLY!
  • Abreu - historically bad.



  • Seth and Ronel leading the way... who saw that coming?
  • Hader & Pressly have some good regression coming. We all knew that. They're not really 6-7 ERA types.
  • Even without the "bad luck" Brown & Bielak has been dreadful. I think we need to trade Bielak for whatever we can good and give Brown his role as long relief clean up. He's been better out of the BP before.
  • Small sample but JV may be a bit of fools gold if he keeps walking guys and getting barreled up.
  • This looks way worse when you lower the min to allow all pitchers. So many one offs who have stunk.



  • #6 in wOBA and #8 in xwOBA. Solid for as poorly as we've looked.
  • Neck and neck with Arlington, but way ahead of Seattle.
  • The usual suspects near the top except its shocking to see KC so high.



  • I thought we'd be lower.
  • #26 in wOBA and #17 in xwOBA
  • We're in the bottom 3 in "unlucky", while Arlington is #1 in "lucky" (not sure luck is the right term but we'll go with it)
  • Seattle near the top is a problem, but we know their pitching was loaded.
  • Shocked Toronto is so low.

I agree completely, but it would at least return something to trade one away. possibly a low A prospect of some kind?

Ryan O'Hearn is also on the orioles. Another SHSU product who is having a good season so far. a .926 OPS...granted he's been the majors a handful of years already though

Completely agree. It's got to feel so good for him knowing he made some major changes to the way he did things to get himself to The Show and see instant results.

I think the reason Altuve defies expected numbers is simply because he is a pure hitter. Just as simple as that to me. He's 0.00001% of bat to ball skills and just knows how to put the ball in play where the ball finds grass. He completely changed his mindset of hitting .300 to hitting an OPS of .900 halfway through his career, and freaking did it and keeps doing it. That's just a hitter to me.

It's why he's a HOF, and why I think when it's all said and done, is in the conversation for best 2B ever.

yes, and part of being unpredictable is the ability to hit pitches up in the zone, down in the zone, out of the zone, and so forth

Spoke to one of my people who are most "plugged in" just a few minutes ago.

- Houston and Chicago HAVE discussed a deal involving Benintendi.

- Chicago wants Houston to pay a chunk of Abreu's salary. Houston will only do that if Chicago includes a couple prospects. Chicago says no.

- Very slim odds it happens. In fact, I'll be shocked if it happens. It's just something that was discussed at some point.

- The Astros are actively exploring avenues to move on from Abreu and I was told they may get creative.

- I saw someone mention moving Chas/Meyers. I've been told since last year that it's a possibility if it means improving another area of the roster. There's a handful of clubs that think Jake would benefit greatly from a change of scenery. I'm not saying it will happen or will probably happen- but something to keep an eye on.
