He's not an All Star, but hell yes. Go get him now.

Only question is if someone else will beat us to it
So just need to survive CWS, Colorado, and Miami
Is the waiver order based on current record or last year's finish?
Should be based on current standings....

Quote:

Claiming priority is based on reverse winning percentage. So, if a player is placed on outright waivers and claimed by more than one team, the team with the worse winning percentage gets priority.

If two or more claiming clubs are tied with the lowest percentage of games won, the priority goes to the club with the lowest percentage of games won in the previous season.

We are literally in Chicago. Go walk across the hall and grab him.

It all makes too much sense not to happen.

While I understand everyone's frustrations, I have been supportive of the decision to give ABs to Singleton compared to the other bad options on the table (and partially because I am pessimistic about Loperfido's readiness to be even mediocre up here with that AAA strikeout rate). He has not produced much but at least shows competitive ABs.

But if Cooper is available on the waiver wire, that is an obvious screaming take to help bail us out of an unworkable situation. He is no star, but he is cheap and competent. And I would not worry about Singleton being claimed on waivers, although if you lose him in the process of upgrading, so be it.

If they're scared of losing Singleton because he gives you a LH bat off the bench then just DFA Abreu already.

The problem is that Cooper is, generally, a heavy splits guy. IF we were to get him, he'd need to start all the LHP games. Abreu was a fairly even splits guy in his past. Now, he's equally terrible. But if Abreu is still on the roster, we lose a lefty bat. In an ideal world, you pick up Cooper and lose Abreu. Then either you ride with Singleton or make the move for Loperfido.

Sorry, but I cut Yordan no slack in not even attempting to give 1B a serious try. A blind man can't see. This is a case of won't, not can't. Right now the bar is so low at 1B that below average is a significant improvement.

Yeah……. you couldn't be more wrong here.

If we don't get him now, someone else will.

Cooper's splits were extreme last year, but that seems to be the outlier. In fact, in 2022 they were flipped.

In any case, his career number's against RHP are still better than any of our options. I think he would immediately be our best option against RHP and LHP. You would still have Caratini to pick up a game or two at 1B if you really needed a LHB before Loperfido is ready.

I also agree that I would rather keep Singleton and dump Abreu, but I just don't see that happening. I think they would just cut Abreu's playing time but keep giving him ABs here and there to see if "the back of his baseball card" ever shows back up.

It can't help Chas that he has a rock hitting behind him. If I'm a pitcher I'm not giving puddin' anything to hit and if he walks so be it.

So much for "more opportunities for Singleton."

Yep, which probably makes him press and swing at stuff he shouldn't

What we need is some sort of 20 inning game - and I know that' impossible because we lose every game in the 10th inning - where Singleton is pressed into playing RF on some bizarre Espada quadruple switch and Abreu is at first. They both chase a pop up and conk heads and someone else has to play first.

Or.....

Wrigley has the visitor dugout on the first base side, no? So Abreu just falls into Singleton going for a foul ball.

If Abreu drives in a run this year I bet we're up 5+ runs already.

Normally you'd count on that happening against someone like the A's, but they're better than the Astros right now. The Rockies games this weekend might be his last hope.

Remember when Eovaldi came back last year from a forearm strain without a rehab start? His first start against the Astros in the gas grill he got lit up for something like 9 runs. This seems like not a good plan and someone acting out of desperation.

Chas simply isn't going to get great pitches to hit in front of Abreu. If he is 3-1 in front of a decent hitter, he can narrow down what he is looking for. With Abreu behind him, pitchers aren't going to give in and he has to try to handle everything. Significantly harder in that case to not swing at stuff he shouldn't because you get fooled so much easier
