He's looked very mediocre. I expected a step back from his crazy good season last year, but nothing like this. I think he'll work his way out of it.

Bregman strikes me as an Analysis Paralysis victim. He's trying too hard to win the chess match and misses mistakes and gets caught guessing
I've said this before, but his swing is a very linear swing on a specific plane. It's extremely consistent. He does best on mistake pitches and pitches that feed into his swing plane. When pitchers locate well, they beat him. This is why he pops up so much and kills the ball into the ground. The pitches are above or below his set plane and he can't adjust. When he's on, it's because he takes what the pitcher gives him and his timing is on point to pull on inside pitches and drive oppo on outside pitches. He's playing in a batting order spot that demands run producing and he is not built for adjusting his power swing.

And 4 of those they knew would be on the IL before the season even started. 3 of them you knew would not be back until July at the earliest… Yet no move to help the rotation depth in the offseason. Frustrating

I wonder how much is him pressing, knowing he's in and around Abreu and that he is trying to hard to make up for that.

You could DH him today and Tuesday. To me that's still maximizing his offense and not giving him some partial time off. We had an off day Thursday and have another one tomorrow
I wish we could teach Yainer a second position, I would like to have him DH more and caratini in the lineup more but with only two catchers it makes it difficult as you have to burn the dh if one of them gets hurt during the game
Most teams don't consider DH a day of rest. Yes it's better than catching but it's as much a mental break as anything else.
The guy I'd like to see DH more is Altuve. He sucks in the field and he's not a spring chicken. Can't afford to lose him for a significant period of time.

Yeah it's funny, I'm a huge fan of OOTP baseball sim games, and he just kills you in the field. Something like a -11 Zone rating at the end of the year. Very quickly on you start DH'ing him against righties and playing him at first against lefties (he turns into a decent 1B after a spring training session there) playing Cabbage at first against righties because he is insane against them (at least in the sim)

Every time I feel bad about the Astros, I consider the last 15 ish years of the Angels. Three of the greatest players of the modern game, albeit Pujols on the back end of it, and their last playoff appearance was when my now 6th-grade kids were 2 years old.

You're not wrong but more to it than that….
What about ignoring the runner on first so him getting a huge jump and stealing second, then caratini dripping the ball on the transfer (not that it would have mattered with the jump). Or the high amount of balls thrown. Or getting two strikes and not having a put out pitch.
Eta, an another brain fart my brown and a balk. Which runner would have likely been safe anyway.
