it's not a good idea to evaluate a player strictly upon his best month

gotta look at the mean, median, and mode so to speak

He had an .835 OPS in Sep / Oct which is good not excellent. Can't argue with you on the playoffs but it's such a small sample size it's hard to say whether he was locked in or just got a few meatballs that he took advantage of.

He was leading in RBIs for Sept that month.

An .835 OPS is better than any current option we have at 1B and would be 5th on the team in OPS, which is exactly where he was originally going to be batting.

It's just hard to me to believe he's incapable of turning things around. If he was totally washed out then his performance the last few months of last year wouldn't be possible. He's certainly had plenty of meatballs to hit during the month of April but has done nothing but turn them into weak grounders.

For every Jose Abreu, there is an equal and opposite Joey Loperfido.

No offense, but some things need to be "messed up".

Didnt get to watch any of Verlander's return Friday night nor any of the first seven innings today, Then listened to 8-10 while going to get dinner.

Only thing I've seen comparable to that 10th inning was a high school football 20+ years ago that had gone into over time. Team A fumbled the snap on its first play of OT and Team B fell on it. They switched units and Team B ran for a 25-yard TD on the first play from scrimmage. The whole thing took like 45 seconds.

Been a lot of doom and gloom on this thread, justifiably so, but win tomorrow and it's a series win. Keeping taking 2 out of 3 from the teams you are better than and 7-15 becomes 8-15, then 10-16, then 12-17, then and eventually you've made it to .500.

Another Bregman failed clutch situation in a run producing role.

No offense, but some things need to be "messed up".

Not the few things that are working…

Yordan seems to finally be adjusting to 2nd. Tucker has hit better lately 4th. Pena is doing well lower down.

And why on earth would you put the better CFer in left. If he's on the field then Jake is in CF

My biggest issue with the offense besides just hitting with RISP is the lack of pop right now. We have 24 HR but most of those have come in those blowout wins or in garbage time.

Last night we had 9 hits and all of them were singles. We are lacking that 3 run HR when it counts or the bases clearing double. How many times have we had men on, then had a single and held the guy at 3rd only for him to end up stranded there? Seems like it's been happening a lot. We need extra base hits with RISP and not just garbage time homeruns.

24 home runs as a team in 22 games is good overall… but 13 of those came in 4 games (all the blow out wins)

So 11 HR in the other 18 games

He sucked last year. It isn't a sudden problem. His second half OPS last year was .760, which, when combined with his defense, was just an improvement from awful to below average from the first half.

He was excellent from August and into the playoffs, though. So this doesn't appear to be aging related.

If it isn't a decline due to age, it would be odd. Do some players get rich and lazy? Sure. But by all accounts he is putting in the work.

You don't see many 40-year-old productive major league hitters. He is 37 (assuming that is corrrect). So yes he is at or near the end.

Bregman is pretty good when batting with 2 out and RISP (.940 OPS).

When the game is close and late, however, he is Choke City. He sports a career .697 OPS in nearly 500 plate appearances. This year he is mowing them down at an eye-popping .452 OPS level.

If the game is on the line, Bregman is the LAST player you want at the plate (besides Abreu, of course).

Bregman strikes me as an Analysis Paralysis victim. He's trying too hard to win the chess match and misses mistakes and gets caught guessing

Left Handed Singleton getting the start vs a LHP. Abreu is down deep.

Please just be stiff and make the next start. No DL. Please.

Diaz has been playing a lot. I assume they like the idea of him getting two full days of rest. While we've had a lot of pitching injuries, we've had none on offense. No reason to push our luck.

There's still a chance that some of these guys start carrying their weight, especially JV, but a significant portion of our payroll has either not been available to contribute or failing pretty miserably to start the season. One notable omission on this list is Montero, who is still grossly overpaid, but actually pitching okay at the moment.

Bregman: $28.5M (5 RBI, .225 Avg)
Verlander: $22.5M (1 start)
Abreu: $19.5M (no words)
Hader: $19M (8.38 ERA, 1 BS)
McCullers: $17M (MIA)
Pressley: $14M (8.31 ERA, 2 BS)
Framber: $12.1M (2 starts)
Graveman: $8M (Was he ever really here?)

Why did we ever need Yordan to adjust to anything?
Because it was discussed early that we was struggling with hitting earlier and it seeing pitches being behind Altuve

You could DH him today and Tuesday. To me that's still maximizing his offense and not giving him some partial time off. We had an off day Thursday and have another one tomorrow

Pena up to the 5-hole

one indication that things have gone off track...

Espada said in spring traning that he wanted Pena to come to the park everyday knowing where he was going to hit in the lineup.

i.e. 8th or 9th

His power numbers are down a bit. He hit 4 homeruns in a 5 game stretch two weeks ago and only 1 in the other 17 games. Only 1 XBH in the last 10 games.

Don't know if it's due to the 2 hole or not but we need his power back up

Aside from the obvious of Bregman, Houston really needs Chas to find his swing. He's walking, but that's the only thing he's doing. No homers yet. He does have 7 RBI, so it hasn't been completely terrible.

But he leads the team in K, despite being 8th in ABs
