Guys, the chances of Diaz laying down a successful bunt are probably around 10% at most. There's a lot of criticism to go around. That's not one of them.

I call completely bull**** on that. Guarantee it's much higher than 10%

I'm sure he's reasoning behind coming up with that 10% figure is super in depth and makes lots of sense

Off day tomorrow.

What I would like to see between now and then.

IL stint for Abreu, call up Loperfido

Altuve (2B)
Alvarez (LF)
Bregman (3B)
Tucker (RF)
Diaz (C)
Pena (SS)
Meyers/McCormick (CF) ask Alexa to flip a coin
Loperfido (1B)
Dubon (DH)

So he can hit a 430 home run but he can't stick thr bat out for a weak grounder?

Pitching is a function of injuries.

Our 7-8-9 are supposedly healthy and have coughed up a seasons worth of games already.

Crane killed off the GM who kept what Luhnow built running and hired a scout he immediately neutered with awful contracts to underperforming 30-somethings. All leadership left and we can call up five AAA pitchers a week but not Loperfido. I think it's done.

Next 5 series (14 games)

@ Washington (7-10)
@ CHC (10-7)
@ Colorado (4-14)
vs. Cleveland (12-5)
vs. Seattle (8-10)

8-7

Which would give us an amazing… 14-21 record
I think we go 10-4 over that span and get to 16-18

I'm okay not bunting since it was Tucker and Diaz. My issue is that when it's a clutch moment… certain guys freeze. With a runner on 2nd and your 4-6 hitters up that should be a run every time

I'd take that… but I don't see it unless the offense magically becomes clutch

Not being an *******. I would bet all the money I have that if you give him 10 AB's he lays down more than 1 bunt successfully.

I promise you. You don't want Diaz bunting of all people. Bunting is not easy- and he's probably attempted two at once his entire pro career. That's not his game.

This thread would want our 2nd best hitter who doesn't bunt to bunt.

That's pretty par for the course.

Man, i respect the hell out of you and your insight, I really do

But you simply cannot convince me that a professional player is incapable of laying down a bunt

We should be bunting every time in extras

The Manfred Runner has been in place for what 4 seasons now and was made permanent last year by owners?. There's no excuse to be a 10% successful bunter in this game anymore

And 10% success rate just being not popping it up

The argument "they are incapable of bunting because they never do it" seems strained at best.

The team just spent a month in spring training. I find it hard to believe they never once did a live pitching bunt drill.

The rules have changed with Manfredball, pitch clicks emphasizing speed, etc. Not being capable of laying down a sac bunt when one run wins it or ties it in this new age is admitting you are willing to concede a strategic advantage.

No doubt, but the call-ups have not helped, which I think is influencing the rankings.

Exactly right

And if they didnt work on it then its time to fire the entire coaching staff

Supposedly getting 2 starters back within the week. I don't think 10-4 or 9-5 is that much of a longshot.

I don't like Yanier bunting because

A) He's our #4 hitter who swings a damn good bat and
B) With 1 out and down by one I don't wanna give up and out to move a guy over who's already in scoring position

No team in the league would bunt their cleanup hitter in that situation. If you don't want him swinging then he shouldn't be in 4 hole.

What makes me even more sad is that we are no longer the type of organization that recognizes how these new dumbass rules ought to change fundamentally how we approach certain situations, and therefore how we prep for them. We are no longer cutting edge.

Yeah but given our starting pitching was great this week and we still got swept, it might not make a difference who we get back. This team finds ways to lose and it will continue until the back end of the pen and offense wake up

I am not arguing whether he should have bunted or not.

I am arguing that IF he did bunt, he has a higher success rate than 10%. 10% for a major league catcher who has shown outstanding hand eye coordination is an absurd argument to make.

So to all the "it's too early" people… when is it okay to worry?

This team just doesn't look good and lacks fire.

I wasn't worried after the first 3 series … but this series and the royals series were seriously concerning because now the losing is a pattern

1) We had zero outs

2) you increase your odds stratospherically by moving the runners up because you remove the possibility of a double play

3) with a runner on third, almost anything other than a strikeout scores that runner

4) this team is desperate for wins and we have been zero
Clutch in these situations so why not change the approach?

Down by 1 in extras it's a legitimate question to ask "are we trying to tie and extend or are we trying to win?" If you bunt, the answer is "extend" the game. With Yainer up, you expect hits and to win the game, imo. Even after Yainer flied out, you expect 2 more attempts to get that tying run home, at least.

Pena just ended up with the worst possible outcome. A stronger argument can be made for trying to steal Tucker.

It really sucks that our team simply isn't jiving at all on a game to game basis. Someone always comes in and ****s the bed.

If JP France or Brown have a good game, our offense, defense, or bullpen ****s it up and vice versa.

Gonna be a long season if this garbage play continues.

Probably when a playoff berth is out of reach.

But it's definitely not game 20 of 162

Do they look bad and have some serious concerns? Yes

But that doesn't mean it's time to worry.
