You move the runners to 3rd and 2nd and then anything in play ties it up

Bunt Diaz: runners at 2nd and 3rd, 1 out. Nope. Tuck stays at 1B setting up the GIDP.

Ok. Myers at 3B and Tuck at 1st, Pena up with 1 out. Steal Tucker? Nope. Bunt Pena and get Meyers home? Nope.

This team is SOOOOO easy to beat right now. Put absolutely NO pressure on opposing defenses. Why put a speed guy at 2nd IF WE DON'T USE HIS SPEED?

Espada is losing me, man.

Guys, the chances of Diaz laying down a successful bunt are probably around 10% at most. There's a lot of criticism to go around. That's not one of them.

Astros first base position is currently sporting a -1.3 wins above average for 2024, which is good for a distant 30th place in MLB. In terms of individual positions (not starters, relievers, or all outfield), Abreu and Singleton combine for the worst WAA total of all players to date. Only the White Sox left field situation is nearly as bad.

Astros position ranks:

  • 2B- 1st
  • C- 3rd
  • DH- 3rd
  • OF- 6th
  • SS- 15th
  • 3B- 15th
  • SP- 22nd
  • RP- 29th
  • 1B- 30th

Pitching is a function of injuries. The position players are good enough to be above average even with the RISP struggles. There is one GLARING issue that has no solution with respect to time or law of averages, and apparently management has no intention of addressing it in the near future.
