You don't lose the DH if you pinch hit for him. The pinch hitter becomes the new DH. Only if the DH subsequently plays in the field do you lose it.

That was the aversion last year to DHing Diaz with Maldonado catching. Cause if you pinch run for Maldonado, now Diaz has to catch...DH gone.
