Outside of the first round pick, last year's draft is looking very strong. I will be interested to see what he does in this year's draft. I think the college bats will drop off after pick 20 or so and in general it's a weak college pitching draft. High school pitchers are notoriously high risk but the Braves didn't shy away from taking them early. I could see him taking a high school pitcher to save a few bucks and unload on some tougher signs later. Thats similar to what the Braves did when they took Owen Murphy in 2022 (who is looking very good).

We know there's a *strong* correlation between exit velocity and batting average, wOBA, other results-based metrics -- hit the ball hard, and good things happen.

That doesn't mean a guy can't be successful hitting the ball soft (e.g., Arraez).

Min 10 Swings

Abreu ranks 136th at 72.6. He is ahead of Singleton, Caratini, TED, Kessinger, Bregman, McCormick, Dubon, Altuve, & Meyers. And he did it with one of the shorter swings too.

Ahead, meaning all of them have slower bat speeds than Abreu? I'm either understanding that wrong or very surprised

Always an exception to the rule. No one will teach Bagwells stance, but it worked for him. No one is going to target 5'5" players (I hear they're inferior) but Altuve made it work. No one is going say swing slower than the rest of the league.

Also, he couldn't square up anything (only Kessinger is worse).

To farmer's point, though, a lot of people said he was late b/c he lost bat speed.

In a small sample, Cabbage has the fastest bat speed

Interesting graph to look at. Luis Arraez, who has the slowest bat speed pointed out above, has the highest "squared up" rate. Must be something about bat control when you don't swing as hard? idk

Tucker is leading the team with an average LA of 21.7 and catching the "sweet spot" (launch angle between 8 and 32 degrees) 42% of the time.

Yainer has an average of 6.1 degree LA...he really needs to start getting the ball in the air, b/c he hits it so hard half the time.
