I know I'm being an Eeyore about Loperfido, but the k-rate jump from AA to AAA, which was about 10 points (from 25% to 35%) is concerning. It's good to see his k-rate come down to 31%, but MLB pitching is so, so much better than AAA. He's not going to get his pitch as often. Just screams Pena and the low-and-away slider from last year to me.

I'm hoping to be proven wrong, but I just have a personal opinion he's going to struggle mightily in his first MLB stint.

That doesn't mean I don't think he can't become a solid contributor, but I think it's going to be next year more than this year.

Post above mentioned that the K rate is because of passiveness and not lack of contact on swings. So he either finds what he likes and mashes it or he strikes out. I'm ok with that as long as he's not routinely up with RISP and two outs. And I'll take it any day over Bregman's weak ground balls and double plays, as Joey's failures only lead to a single out.

I don't disagree. Just saying it's an approach thing for him, and MLB pitchers are much better at pitching against your approach. He hasn't had to face a slump yet at the AAA level, it's going to be interesting to see how he handles the slump. Going to be harder to break the slump at the MLB level than AAA. Really that's the main reason I've thought he's not ready but combine his performance in AAA and the terrible struggles of Jon and Abreu, and he's forced Dana's hand.

My point is I don't think he's going to find a lot of what he likes and smash it against MLB pitchers, especially if he actually does do it for the first month.

Again - rooting for the guy, and you don't know until you try, but I'm pretty reserved on his contribution to the team at this point. And yes, I get he would be no worse than Abreu, but he's about to be thrown into a situation where the expectations are very high for him (whether this board admits they have high expectations for him or not) on a team that should be much better than they are. It's a tough spot for him as a young hitter.

I dont dislike the Royals by any means, but it looks like it could be their everyday jersey which is why I rank it lower personally. There are subtle references to the city but overall its very "safe" to me.


Drives me nuts when city connect jerseys seem to have little or zero connection to the city itself

Some silver linings on an off day, was looking at the fangraphs team page. BABIP for Hader, Pressly and HB so far: .458, .452, .475 respectively.

They (Hader especially) can be high strikeout percentage guys so there might be more fluctuation in their BIP as a result of contact quality, but all of their FIPs are significantly lower than their ERA numbers. Let's hope for better BABIP moving forward.

As much as I was rooting for Singleton to be a contributor it's at the point he should be DFA'd. I think he was given multiple chances to get it together but having not one single RBI after 28 games just doesn't cut it.

Keep in mind, the sample is small. The top 2 outfielders in this window have been Harrison Bader & Keke Hernandez. Guys like Betts & Judge are well behind Tucker.

Just listened to a segment from Rates & Barrels on Loperfido. The geniuses on there think Loperfido's K issue with the ABS Strike Zone. Based on who the league-wide rates changed when these systems were implemented, they think Loperfido was more like 25% K% which is much more palatable.

Any idea on a time mark not really looking to spend the whole hour plus
