You want your SS to try to make that play every time. The 1B has to block the ball. It wasn't that far off to completely miss it. Wouldn't have been an out but didn't need to be a run.

That's a really dumb play by Abreu. Come off the bag and it's 1st and 3rd 2 outs. Instead you cost a run and put another runner in scoring position. You cannot stay on the bag there. Just awful
