He'll be getting a torso transplant next month

So now it's a maybe for Lance to return as a BP piece this year.

Can't say I'm shocked but...

If Crochet is too expensive in terms of prospects, what about Fredde? He's signed at 7.5 this year and next, and he has been pretty good for the Sox. His splits are much better at home, but I didn't dive into the stats. Might be a good back-end (4 or 5) starter to take some innings and keep games competitive.

I can't imagine he would break the bank in terms of prospects.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

Amputate LMJ's good arm and make it a replacement leg for Tucker

He is. He's probably the most expensive piece on the market.

Erick Fedde is having a career year. In pretty much all aspects he's as good as he's ever been. Stuff wise it is below avg across the board except for his sweeper (FanGraphs calls it a slider). It looks like he's done it with pitchability/location. He's got 1.5 years of control. Pretty much anyone avg to above avg would help us right now.

Just Baseball names him as a good fit with the Astros 2 weeks ago.

I normally fast forward through commercials on the television broadcast (starting the game around 1 hour in on the DVR), but last night in the middle of an inning they cut to a short CenterPoint ad, and it seemed to me it was just a visual and they did away with the sound apart from background music.

I assume it's because the spot was advertising specials when so many in Houston didn't have power. Did anyone else notice that, or was it my imagination? If it was muted on purpose someone was on the ball at CenterPoint as far as damage control.

How does he even remember what "normal" soreness feels like?
"Normal" soreness that was such a setback they reported on it last night and discussed in the presser today. Uh huh yeah right, it's just slight "shoulder discomfort" lol

Pulse check on a Breggy extension.

Over the last 37 games:
  • .318 BA
  • .373 OBP
  • .541 SLG
  • .913 OPS
  • 158 wRC+
  • 28 R
  • 23 RBI
  • 7 HR

That's a ~30-100-120 pace for HR-RBI-R

On the defensive side, he's 4th (+2) in FRV at 3B.

Yall ready to give him 5/100?

I think I'd do that if his horrific start really drove down his value that far. I'm dubious.

That's with the assumption that we won't be able to afford Tucker. If it's either or you break open the bank for Tucker.

Usually he starts slow but by the end of April he's blowing and going. This year he started slow then got worse. It's July and he's only 6% above avg. 2022 was his worst season. He had a bunch of injuries and only played 91 games. He's at 87 games this year and still worse overall.

For me, I let him walk unless you can sign him for 2-3 years max at market value. I want no part of 34 year old Bregman.

The tick down in walks this year worry me a little too.
Hornbeck

Agreed. Bregman is another Abreu waiting to happen.

I wouldn't go that far. I think a diminished Bregman still has a place in baseball. I just don't want to be the team giving him 20 M.
Hornbeck

What you and I consider fair and what Bregs and his agent consider fair are likely very different. Now, as he gets over 35. He's more injury prone, and I think the value of him diminishes. But, I don't think that he's not out of the ballpark of an Abreu like collapse at 37, 38. Look at how Yuli has fallen off, as another example. At least we didn't get locked into something there. Many were calling for another contract for Yuli.

Maybe Lance should learn to throw left-handed. Pull a Billy Wagner.

Would be wild if going into the 2025 season, Lance's last appearance was the homerun derby in Philly WS Game 3

This has got to be the longest stay on the injured list for a shin contusion ever. Team playing great without him though.

No. Would you give him 3/75? That's a bit above the QO for 2025 and then again basically 26 and 27.

If Bregman was actually 2-3 years older than his birth certificate I'd say they are VERY comparable.

Unless he sustains it for the rest of the year (INCLUDING, hopefully, playoffs--we've seen him disappear a la Tucker last year), no thank you. I'd go 3/45 max, but he would never take that.

How about 4/$80M with a 5th year at $25M if he hits certain marks the previous season? Give him an opt out after year one if he wants a do over for his contract year, assuming he doesn't maintain his current pace and finishes well below his career averages.

I am not sure why you would isolate that streak of slightly over a month and use it to ignore the two months before it when he was ice cold. He is an aging .250-270 hitter with decreasing power and above average defensive skills. I would not give him a 5 year contract right now and I wouldn't overpay for 3-4.

Because that is the current streak he is on. I'm just showing this hot streak is hot/long enough to pull him above water from his extended cold one.

The fact you use BA alone in your description kind of shows we're not looking at the same thing.

Crane also signed Abreu and gave Montero an extension, so maybe he's had time to reflect on those disaster contracts and realize that his way isn't always the best way.

The Pirates potentially being buyers and needing to clear space came up on Baseball Today. I would bet they're give away Ke'Bryan Hayes at this point. It would clear 3.5 M (2nd half of 7M) this year plus another 37 M over the next 5 years. He's never clicked and having his worst season yet. If a change of scenery or a new set of coaches could fix him, you could get a steal. Worse case you have an elite 3B defender who bats in the bottom of your lineup.

I'd be down with that.

Let Bregman walk, let Hayes play 3B, and EXTEND Tucker GDit!!!!

I didn't use more because more wasn't needed to make the point. He had a 2 month ice cold streak and now just over a month hot. I'm not ready to load up a brinks truck for the guy based on a hot month after how terrible he was for the first two.

Speaking of the Buck Os, they're looking for a right handed outfielder. Can we interest them in a Chas?

I think Ward is a pretty damn good player who could really thrive after a change in scenery a la Brandon Marsh.

Chas could also and he'd be cheaper than Ward.
