I listened to the pod when it came out, and I can't say I disagree with anything they said. Jomboy and Trevor seem high on the lineup and then the pitching will come later, while Jake is a bit more skeptical overall because of health and replacing MLB vets with rookies and older BP pieces. Jake also sees the division we are in.

For one, Chapman was a mid-season acquisition to address a position of dire need (bullpen). The Rangers have a pretty good starting rotation as-is, so the need isn't the same.
Chapman, as mentioned, had a domestic issue but nothing nearly to the extent of the baggage Bauer brings.
Lastly, as I mentioned previously, last season the Rangers were trying to win their first championship and tried to plug a hole with a proven player. This season they're the reigning WS champs and they're trying to maintain the culture that they have, and I think will only sign a player with baggage if it addresses a big problem.
That said, if one or two of our starters were to go out with injuries and Bauer is still available, they may well take a flyer on him. But I can absolutely see why they aren't rushing to do so right now. And, by the way, no other team is either.
Dude has some off the field kink but it seems like there was never any evidence of injury, mostly stories that seem like lies or at best greatly embellished. So I don't care about his off the field stuff. I do care about the clubhouse and they have a great source in Seager. The fact they haven't pursued him even though they did determine getting a discounted veteran starter was necessary last week likely gives me Seager's answer
The quintessential Bauer move that would keep me from signing him is him launching a baseball over the CF wall and *****ing his own manager when he was getting yanked. The off the field stuff isn't a good look either, but it is off the field at the end of the day and he was absolved of it. If you could trust him to be a solid clubhouse presence then taking a chance on him might not be an issue, but his antics AT THE BALLPARK before he got axed is what is keeping teams at bay imo.
Here's the most common path for a guy like that - he's an ahole and is always gonna be an ahole. He can probably tamp it down for awhile because he needs the job. But once things settle down, the long season is grinding, and enough time passes, the ahole side of him is going to start making appearances because it's just who he is
Yep. And unless I missed it, he hasn't really owned the fact that he's been a crappy teammate. I think it would go a long way with teams if he made a statement to the effect of "I've been a real jerk in the past and I'm committed to being a better person." All of what I've seen is him doing is denying the charges against him, and not addressing his other dewshy behavior. That is probably an indicator that he doesn't see that side of his personality as being a problem - which is a problem.DannyDuberstein said:

Had an employee like that. When the heat got hot, he'd fall in line, but when the heat wasn't there, he was all mouth.
We had a team event playing a round of golf at a private club. A friendly competition of two groups each group playing best-ball. One of my employees decided he wanted to play his own ball. Everyone kept complaining to him, even the Caddie was like, "Hey, what are you doing? This is a team best-ball."
There wasn't a single person out of the 12 that ever wanted to see him again. 30 mins after the Round he called to give me his two-week notice. He was pretty drunk. The next day I told him to send me a written notice and he calls and say, "Hey, I'm thinking of reconsidering." I was like, "You're joking, right? You just saved me from having to fire you."
He likely had an Offer coming that day and didn't give a rats ass that he came across like a *****. That next day when he sobered up, his girlfriend/wife likely reminded him that the end of the term for RSUs was 2 weeks away and he wanted to make sure he got his vesting.
I had HR terminate his access as soon as I got his notice and told him, we didn't need his services anymore.

I've got a buddy who is trying to sell his two tickets for the Saturday game. They're in section 211 row 1, asking $400, if anyone is interested send me a message! Just trying to help them get sold!

I will say I marked my calendar for 4/24 game right when the promo schedule was posted and 4/24 was this Seager bobble head at that point. Part of me thinks they have the picture wrong for his SS one but I'm not one to question Gigem about this stuff. Got to think this is his WS MVP one and not the SS.
Guess I'll just have to go both days.

Made a fun/dumb wager while in Vegas this weekend. Got Seager winning the MVP and Langford or Carter to win rookie of the year at +2900.
Seager needs to play 130+ games and that's a solid bet.

A solid futures bet right now may be Langford to win AL MVP. Currently sitting at +8000. With Ohtani out of the AL, Seager and Alvarez struggling to stay healthy, I'd lay $20 to win $1600.
Langford to win AL MVP??? Or RoY?
