Odor hasn't been on the club in years, and he still acts like Odor slept with his mom, sister, and wife.

By the time Odor was Langford's age he had already had 2 seasons at the MLB level:
234 G, .260 BA, 25 HR, 10 SB, .307 OBP, .742 OPS, 150 SO
In this season, Langford, whom we're not sure will be with the Rangers Opening Day... this is what Odor did in his 3rd season that Langford would need to achieve to reach the level did at age 22.
150 G, .271, 33 HR, 14 SB, .296 OBP, .798 OPS, 135 SO.
I'm excited about Langford, but he has 0 ABs at the MLB-level and you really don't know what kind of hitter he will be.
Yeah, it's really not fair when folks act like Odor was garbage almost exclusively. Obviously he tanked for whatever reason, but for a few seasons he was a badass.
He was on his way to a HoF career. He could have been Top5-10 in almost every Offensive category.
I think there were 2 things that derailed him. First, I don't know this, but when he signed that big contract, I'm guessing he became less coachable. I think him going around JD and going straight to ownership to get a deal, likely rubbed JD in a way that JD's ego couldn't get rid of Odor fast enough.
2nd thing is, the Rangers implemented the 3-true outcomes top-to-bottom in the organization. It destroyed Gallo, Mazara, et al and required the Rangers to rebuild the minors.
At 29, Odor is 22nd All-Time in HRs for a 2B (178 HRs). If he were to get 15HRs in each of his next 3 seasons, putting him at 32 (still in his prime), he'd have 223 and be 14th All-Time.

I did want to follow up on comments about Spring Training. The games are meaningless, except for those looking to make the team.
When I was a STH for the Dallas Stars, their 1st big push into the playoffs '98, I ran out of gas. As with the Rangers in '24, the intensity goes up every round and so "might" the drinking.
In 1999, when the Stars won the Stanley Cup, the intensity was palpable.
If you are the type that always sees MLB Spring Training games as meaningless, there is a good chance after Opening Day, the games in April are going to feel like Spring Training games.
In truth with the Stars, I was probably still drying out.

Over the years I've developed a sort of applied apathy towards spring training. I view it as an opportunity to watch some of the team's prospects that I would otherwise very rarely get to see. Once it was explained to me how much of the actual evaluation and work goes on "behind the scenes" in ST, I was able to be completely indifferent as the scores of games, and to a large degree even individual performances of players - because a lot of them are working on specific aspects of their games, and the in-game results are much less important than the processes they are going through. We'll probably see Eovaldi get lit up at some point this spring, because he might take a game and throw nothing but splitters to work on refining his delivery of that specific pitch. (just an example). Batters might work on going the other way in every at-bat instead of pulling the ball when the opportunity presents itself. Stuff like that can really skew a player's stats and cause undue concern for those who don't know how it all works.
You're spot on that the only players who need to shine in the games are the prospects or vets on the bubble of making the team. And even then, honestly, the team will make decisions based on the entire picture and not just the results in the games.

Agreed here. I think spring training is beneficial for pitchers to get their arms in shape, work on some new stuff and to stretch them out. The young hitters and prospects benefit from getting to see MLB level of pitching every once in a while, but for players like Seager, Semien, Lowe, Adolis and your every day guys who've had full seasons, I don't think it matters at all. They know what they are doing, how to approach the game and are always working in their off time by themselves.
Can't wait to come to a Rangers game this season. Had to come support the Ags today.

You will need to explain whatever it is you are getting at. I see that he played and went 0 for 2, but I don't see much significance other than him getting some experience with the big boys for a couple innings. He needs plenty more seasoning.
He will be 18 in two weeks and the organization has already seen fit to get him at bats with the big club…pretty significant.

I think many of us saw 2023 as the year before we really had the pieces to contend. And we won it all.

So damn glad Detroit took max Clark.
I don't think we're seeing him any earlier than 2026 (I would go 2027). He slashed .246/.335/.471 in his first year of professional baseball. Now, that's not horrible for a guy who just turned 17 at the beginning of last year, but it does show that he has a ways to go. He'll go back to high-A I feel sure and continue to work on his game, and unless he absolutely lights it up at high-A, I would think he spends almost all of his time there this year.

About July/August, we were playing the Astros and I mentioned that the difference from where the Rangers were and where they needed to be in order to be a Championship team, was the idea that you knew you just had to play your part and you knew someone would pick up the hero role.
We were in that having never had a come from behind win after entering the 8th. The Astros just always seem to be able to come back.
During the Playoffs, the Rangers had several heroic comebacks.
