This was decided months ago. Either he won and went out on top, lost, and retired, or it got smelly and they just formally announced they weren't renewing his contract.

Dusty seemed pretty disappointed in the loss, I think he thought he was going to ride out on a win. Next year seems like another WS year based on what's coming back wouldn't have been suprised to to see him try and stay
