Not saying this is the case here- but a reminder that last time Dana said he's not in the market for starting pitching, he was in the middle of talks with the Mets for JV.

Edit to add: I haven't heard anything specifically other than that the Hader/Snell trade last deadline was very, very close to getting done before falling apart in the last minute. That's when Houston pivoted to JV and the deal got done pretty quick. The Houston organization loves Snell and I've been told they've been in contact with him. Now, to what extent? I'm not sure. But they were in contact before the news about JV was known (or at least made public). Could easily be Dana and his team doing their due diligence.

Haha so true.

I think we have enough options to get start the season between Framber, Javier, Brown, France, Urquidy, Blanco, & Arighetti. You know JV will be back early. And we have a chance to get LMJ & Garcia back in July/Aug. That's 10 potential arms. Most teams are lucky to feel okay about 5-6. Then if things aren't going well enough, you can add at the deadline.

It's really weird to me how the fans need to know and believe what the front office is saying while the front office isn't actually talking to them, but bluffing for their poker game with other teams.

So what I'm hearing is we are signing Snell and Montgomery + trading Hensley/Singleton/Montero for Ohtani

No way the Dodgers make that deal for Ohtani without Corey Julks as part of the package.

Good points.

It kinda gives me vibes of Jan 2018 when everyone was like "where's Cole gonna go... Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers" and we snuck in late and grabbed him, even though we technically didn't need more starting pitching.

I also think the Hader signing offered an interesting template for free agent signings that optimize the short term and help us replace stars longer term. Guessing at least a small part of the reason we signed Hader is because he'll perfectly slide in to replace Pressly in the next year or two. In the meantime, we get the benefit of having both.

If we sign Snell, it probably means he's going to replace Framber longer term. But in the meantime, we get the benefit of having both.

Obviously I'm not predicting we sign Snell and I'm guessing it would be expensive from a tax standpoint. Interesting to think about though while we don't have any real games going on.

I love how in Spring training you can hear fans coaching the players up from the stands like they are dads behind the fence in Little League

If we are in the Snell game then I agree it needs to be longer term. We just gave up a pick to get Hader and Snell will cost another. We don't want a high AAV 1 year opt out type deal like Belli & Chappy got. We need more like a 5/135 M type deal. If there is any truth to the Yankees offer, then we'd be priced out.

Picked off badly at first after drawing a walk. Didn't even make a move back toward the bag. Mouth breathing Meyers already in mid season form.

If it was anyone but Meyers I wouldn't bag on it. But his tendency to be a total space cadet on the base path drives me nuts.

They're doing all kinds of new things on the bases this year. Not surprising for there to be miscommunication. It's spring training guys.

Interesting way to describe a guy who has worked his ass off to bounce back from a serious injury

Jake looked so promising when he was called up in 2021 and has shown some flashes since he came back from the injury. Pulling for him to finally put it together this season.

So you're saying you put undue attention on a player you don't personally like and judge him differently than others.

Makes sense

I may buy tickets to KC just in case. With them building a new stadium I'd like to check it out anyway
I am very tempted to go back in the next couple years before they move. That trip was a blast, and I think it is a mistake to move the stadium.

On another note, family booked flights and an airbnb last week in Boston (South End) for August 9-12th. Looking forward to that first trip to Fenway. Will be looking for recs from those of you who have been come July-ish.

Mrs. Marvin and I loved our visit to Boston last year. Watched from behind the plate and the Monster. Fenway tour was ok. Loved the area outside the stadium before the game. No matter how lopsided the score, the Sox fans will stay until Sweet Caroline in the 8th inning stretch.

I did the Freedom Trail around the city and loved it. Stopped by Cheers for a pint or three. Had another beverage at Bell in Hand (tavern founded in 1795 by the old town crier who announced independence and other events). Day trip to the Plimoth Patuxet living museum, where the year is 1627 and the residents have settled in after their voyage on the Mayflower. Some of the cemeteries are insane and worth a stroll, if you are a history buff. I also thought the day trip down to Martha's Vineyard was a blast- Edgartown is great- but it is a full day.

We took an Uber every day to the stadium. Don't attempt to drive yourself.

Sounds pretty bad, but he was one of our better base runners last year even with fewer opportunities.

It's not that heavy. And it's definitely not personal. It's sports. It's the preseason. It's banter. It's (supposed to be) humor.

Rake Meyers with a hell of a swing there, just early.
