Not sure if posted, but The Athletic included this tidbit from an article yesterday when talking about additional relievers:

"Clouding the pursuit is the uncertainty surrounding Houston's budget, which Brown claims he still must discuss with Crane."

Seems... odd... for this to take place after the winter meetings, if true.

Or it's all posturing that we don't have unlimited funds and if you want to play for a winner, you can take what we offer.

Dude sells tickets for sure. Saw him in Atlanta in 2022 and I've never seen so many Asians in my life.

He's arguably the best DH right now

If Ohtani stops pitching then he'll transition into an outfielder and probably a damn good one based on his speed, size, talent, and work ethic.

An aging OFer. This is his age 30 season with 2 TJs. That contract would go until he's 41.

I know I'm the outlier on him. I just think it's fools gold.

My point was he's either going to be a pitcher or OF long term, not just a DH.

I think you can basically give an extra 10 M (ass pull) to what a normal player is worth each season with the increase in ad and ticket revenue alone.

Baseball doesn't exist did a wild video about how Ohtani impacts $$$

I'm not saying the contract isn't ridiculous but Ohtani is legit and one of the all time greats already. He's not fool's gold.

I'll be legit shocked if he leaves LA. Especially for Toronto

That contract (if real) pays him $50MM to be DH for half of the 24 season. And then maybe pitch for 2-4 more seasons to then be a declining DH from age 36-41. And any time he's injured you have to replace two roster spots in one player. He's on TJ2 and had knee surgery that knocked him out once.

Father Time wins every time. That contract will be an albatross at some point. A dead smelly one at that.

It's like Toronto hasn't learned their lesson with George.

Having said that, $50MM/yr may be a bargain for top end players 3 years from now. Who knows.
