That was a fantastic interview.

Yes it was!

I remember there being talk about in the past about he must not interview well seeing as he's interviewed for multiple jobs but never landed one.

I think that is completely off base and rather it was a case of he just didn't wanna manage anywhere but here.

IDK if it's so much that, but the teams just went in a different direction. Maybe he out interviewed some of these guys but they didn't love his track record enough.

Espada may have said no thanks to some of these teams. Look he dodged some bullets for sure.

Time for some not great news/speculation.

Quote:

The Astros and general manager Dana Brown have been open about their interest in signing extensions with infielders Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman, but the former may be more likely than the latter. Per Bob Nightengale of USA Today, a high-ranking executive with the club said they want Altuve for the rest of his career but are highly skeptical of getting something done with Bregman as well.

Hate to see Bregman go but Altuve as an Astro for life must be done.

Bregman was 3rd among Third Basemen in wRC+ and tied for 4th in WAR, according to Fangraphs. He will turn 30 next March. He's definitely going to be looking for a big, long contract.

In my opinion, I think Bregman did it the right way. He traded 2 two years of free agency for guaranteed life changing money and then set himself up for another big contract at 30.

I really wish Tucker would have looked at it that way this year, signed a 5 year/110 or 120 deal, set himself up for life with that and then still kept himself in play for a big long contract at 30.

That makes sense, but the is kind of capping your earning.

31 year old Bregman may get 100-175 M
29 year old Bregman could have probably gotten 225-250 M

True. That's the risk. Get some money but cap you total. But it hedges and major injury.

I'm still holding out hope that Bregman sees what he can still accomplish in Houston versus what's happened with the teams the other guys have left for. Not naive to think he'll give a "hometown" discount, but would be nice to keep him and Altuve for their careers.

Altuve is a must keep Astro for life even if the contract he needs is not good. No one can convince me otherwise and I will absolutely die on that hill. I don't think Altuve will be unreasonable though.

Yainer wasn't even top 10 in AL Rookie plater appearances.

Yet...
9th hits
7th doubles
3rd in HRs
9th in Runs
5th in RBI

Then the non counting stats (min 250 PA)
2nd in BA
13th in OBP
1st in SLG
3rd in OPS
5th in wRC+

So what is the term we're going to use when Espada makes a bad call that we perceive costs us the game?

Espa-dud?
Empanadaed?
Joe Blows?

Just keeping the stove warm.

Espada replaces Dusty as manager.
Diaz to be starting catcher next season.

The off-season is already a smashing success.

It's amazing that Dusty probably held back Diaz due to a grudge with Chandler Rome.

Watching the Dana press conference and one thing he kept repeating is how "humble" Espada was and he even directly mentioned how Espada would put the best players on the field. I don't know if anyone else caught that, but it was clearly a massive dig at Dusty for how he tarnished last year's season due to his ego.

I love this

All that hoopla about Crane going rogue a la Jerruh Jones was all just unsubstantiated rumors.

Dana ran point and got his guy.

I really like the idea of adding another starter, even if it's a back end kind of guy. It might help keep the inning counts down which would really show benefit at the end of the year, especially if Garcia and LMJ come back.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.
All I do is Nguyen
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Garcia I have high hopes for, but LMJ I would relegate to the BP in long relief. His body has shown he can't be relied on long term in a starter role.

I really hope for his sake he doesn't struggle this year because Dusty couldn't do the right thing and prepare / develope him. Diaz is in such a crappy situation with probably unrealistic expectations from the fans at Dusty's doing.
