Here's the thing...Baker deserved the criticism. There's no way around it.

It wasn't like we were winning 100+ while cruising to a double digit wire to wire division championship and everyone was piling on Dusty.

We were scuffling and the best players weren't playing. What manager wouldn't get second guessed and called out?

The casual baseball fan looks at Baker's record with the Astros and sees: 4 straight ACLS, 2 WS, 1 WS win. The casual fan thinks--wow, he must be a really good manager.

But, as is the case with many things in life, the truth is a bit more nuanced then the headlines show. Making the playoffs wasn't a sure thing for quite a while, only clinching a playoff spot on the second to last day. The Astros basically backed into winning the AL West on a tiebreaker the last day. The Chaz and Diaz situations were baffling, and his dedication to Julks was almost criminal. I know he wanted to have Julks "play through it", but 3 hits over 19 games isn't getting it done.

I don't think Dusty is a terrible manager, but I also don't think he is beyond questioning or criticism. That's kind of the role you sign up for as manager--you get a lot of credit when things go your way, and you get a lot of criticism when they don't.

Dusty's parting shot at the Houston media on his way out was nothing more than an ego-driven man trying to put off pretenses his exit was on his terms.

The ONLY reason he was our manager in 2023 is because we won it all in 2022 and the ONLY way there was even a slight chance of him returning in 2024 is if we won in 2023 AND Crane made the unilateral decision (overruling the rest of his front office) to bring the band back together.

As soon as we lost g7 to the Rangers, his fate was 100% sealed. Kudos to Crane for letting Dusty "retire" (I guess). It's just interesting that for all the accolades Dusty gets as a great baseball man and great dude, he does such petty things in defense of his ego.

Anyone trying to give credibility to Dusty's parting shot at Houston media has never seen how baseball is covered in NY/BOS. Our media is soft AF ha.

Watt's 2014 season is one of the 2-3 best by a defender ever. He should have been league MVP.
78 tackles, 20.5 sacks, 39 tackles for a loss, 4 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries, 1 fumble return for a TD, and 80-yard pick six, a safety, a blocked field goal, and 3 goal-line touchdown receptions.



With how team-oriented football is, having 1 defender able to take control of a game is staggering to watch.

I loved AJ, but Watt surpassed him by the sixth year of his career.

Altuve is #1 and Hakeem is #2. I'd take Earl third, because he friggin carried the Oilers on his back to 2 AFC title games.
