Here's the box score. The Tigers tied the game 3-3 in the top of the 7th, but Ausmus felt like his starter, Michael Fulmer, needed to pitch more so he let him bat with 2 outs.
The Rockies start the bottom of the 8th with a single, single, and sac fly to tie the game and force Ausmus to go to the pen.

I got into a little dustup with Rangers Farmer on one of the other threads, saying that Astros pitching was worn out after going to the postseason year after year and basically ran out of gas.

He later said on their thread that I claimed it was the "only reason" the Astros lost Game 7 and the series. I had to clarify on their thread.

It's Game 1 of the World Series, and they can't focus on that. They are calling the Astros the Buffalo Bills of MLB because of the 7 ALCS appearances. What they are forgetting is we have 4 WS appearances and 2 championships.

Sad.

It's closer to the Broncos or 49ers.

Unscientific view of next season outlook

Dusty replaced with non-Ausmus is easily +5 in the regular season win column next season (Diaz and Chas made everyday starters goes here; consistent lineups with best players playing usually every day; active in game managing, better decisions on when to pull pitchers, etc)

Better player health, rested pitching staff, pick up let's say +5 wins (Not missing Altuve and Alvarez; Framber, Javier, and Urquidy rested and ready; return of Garcia and/or McCullers; Jose Abreu healthy)

Net result of free agent signings and losses and player retirements another +5 (LF to replace Uncle Mike, maybe a bench bat, decent SP, and a high leverage BP arm; Maldy replaced)

And, yes, this means no more sucking at home and being able to win at least 1 more home game in the ALCS.

Reasonable to expect a ~105 win team and a WS appearance next season imo.

Also player development, be it Hunter Brown or JP France taking next step, a farm call up, Diaz/Chas, gotta be worth +2 as well.

The more I think about 2023, the more I realize it was a cluster aberration of a season. Or, the team was coming off winning a title, WBC didn't help, was fatigued AF, significant injuries, and Dusty checked out if not his actions whatever the intent undermined the team.

2024 is setting up to be a banner year, first step is making the right decision on the manager.

Astros seem to do better when the goal is getting back to the top.

Yes, 2023, a season that ended one win away from the WS, was a down year.

Rangers fans hung their hats on those two WS appearances for a while, which was more of a Bills type of run than what we've been on. Then our organization took off and left them in the dust, achieving more during the past seven years than they'll likely achieve in the next 10-20. They know this. They also know that we aren't going anywhere, making any chance they have of replicating our run of success nearly impossible. Some of them hate that even if they win it all this season, they are still well behind us in the overall success of the organization.

So despite the fact that their team is in the World Series, they can't get us out of their heads and find some level of satisfaction in convincing themselves that our run of success hasn't been that great, even though every fan base would trade spots with us in a heartbeat.

Doubt they're that far down the line.

Everything I've seen is that Ausmus is just under consideration. As with all names that have been thrown out there.

I'm still convinced these are all just speculation names and no one knows anything yet.
