And in related news, until today, Brooks Robinson was, surprisingly, still alive.

About a year ago, I bought a 1968 Topps Frank Robinson/Brooks Robinson card. It's one of my favorites.

Brooks Robinson was a great ball player. Before my time but I always thought he was the best 3rd baseman.

When we were kids, my uncle gave my brother a SIGNED Brooks Robinson Orioles cap. My uncle taught at the Naval Academy. My brother wore it every day that friggin' idiot.

When it came to legendary fielders, the Orioles were spoiled beyond belief.
Robinson as 3B from 1955 to 1977, won 16 straight Gold Gloves.
Mark Belanger at SS won 8 Gold Gloves from 1969-1978 and still has the highest career fielding % for a shortstop ever - .977.
Then Ripken started up 1981 and played until 2001.
That's a 46-year stretch where they were only a few seasons that they didn't have an all-time great defender on the left side of the infield.
