Why do they stop selling in 7th inning anyway?

So people could drive only somewhat intoxicated on the way home

If that's the purpose, then shouldn't they stop selling earlier in the games to give fans longer to sober up rather than later to sell more?

I don't get Ahaan's point. Yes, alcohol is processed over time.

Yeah I think he is erroneously looking at it thru the lens of "if you're hammered an hour isn't gonna matter". Which is true. But if you're hammered in the 4th inning you likely won't be sober by end of game either.

The point is for those that like to have 1, maybe 2... that hour is a reasonable/scientific amount of time to "sober up".

The stadium is held to the same standard as a bar or restaurant, which stop selling alcohol when they close. You can't sell to visibly inebriated patrons. Giving a one hour cushion before close won't help a bar if they sold to an obviously inebriated customer.

If you sell alcohol to a visibly drunk patron it doesn't matter when it happens. You can't presume they waited through the last innings and somehow sobered up. At best you're hoping they waited until the game finished, and any extra time helped them not blow over the legal limit.

It's like a blue sky rule of baseball stadiums.

Its is funny that sporting/concert venues do typically cut people off at a certain time, but bars will sell you alcohol at 1:58 AM when they close at 2.

Wonder if the new rules are helping.
