Evan Carter since being called up to AA ....

.462 Avg, .529 OBP, .615 Slg, 1.144 OPS

very small sample size, but wow
Evan Carter, Aaron Zavala, and Luis Angel Acuna are just straight up ball players. I'm feeling good about Thomas Saggese too.

What a sad existence one must live to clench a division and then come to another teams thread you didn't even play that night to brag about it.

Sounds like another advantage the Yankees will have over everybody.

If there has been a bigger strategic sports programming clusterF than this one, I'm not sure what it would be. Maybe LHN, but that's small potatoes compared to the $10 bill they paid for this

Jung's strikeout rate right now is pretty ugly. 21 Ks in 43 ABs. Hopefully he settles in soon and is a little more patient. His strikeout rate in the minors was less than 25% in 602 ABs.

His strikeout rate was really high right before he got called up. Not ideal that's for sure.

21 K's with 0 walks. But it's September, we're eliminated, and he wasn't called up to walk. For comparison, Gallo's career split is 4 walks for every 10 K's.

I believe that Jung will get better with the K% and BB%. He's shown too much at the minor league level to maintain this extreme %.

The thing to remember about Jung is that he's had what amounts to spring training this season. It's not like he's had a full season at AAA, getting 400+ ABs. He's not a high strike type hitter, and I'm sure he'll figure it out sooner rather than later.

Also, at this point in the season we're just trying to figure out what guys are going to be a part of the team next year and what guys are not. Those who are going to be a part of the team (Jung, Thompson, Tavares etc.) are trying to establish themselves in the league and get a solid foothold so they can go into the offseason and really work on their weaknesses in order to take the next level. Jung probably needs to get in better shape and work on his swing and miss some while Thompson and Tavares need to hit for more consistent power. That's where I think we're at with our guys.

Agreed. Pretty excited about the potential of those three guys.

Taveras, Thompson and Jung represent the most exciting young trio I've had to root for when it comes to the Rangers in quite a while. I think all 3 of those dudes have the potential to establish themselves as upper level MLB players

Not DVD?!

For me, I was excited about Holland, Harrison, and Hunter. Add Feliz and Andrus and 2010 was a very hopeful season.

Almost as exciting as Gallo, Profar, Mazara, Odor, and Guzman.

He does need to get better in a hurry. Next year, if he even makes the roster, he'll be a 25 year old rookie 3B. We've already talked about Bregman by 25. Arenado was a rookie 3B at 22 and won a gold glove, then by 24 was a Silver Slugger. Devers is almost 26 and is in his 6th year in the majors.

Maybe Jung will be a late bloomer like Justin Turner.

Was at the game tonight and got to see Josh Smith's 1st outside the park HR and Jung's Golden Sombrero. He looks lost at the plate right now. I'm sure he'll get it figured out.

Haven't seen much of the game, but can report that Jung has batted three times, with no strikeouts . No hits either, but it's progress.

Seriously though, his last at bat, which I did see, was hard hit down the third base line but he was put out on a nice play by the 3rd baseman.

The further this season goes and as we come down the home stretch of games, the more I am convinced that we are going to go out and spend another 150+ million this offseason and trade our wealth of minor league talent for MLB ready guys.

If that happens, hopefully it is for a legit starting pitcher (or two). It's easier to get a free agent hitter, but I'd be good with trading some prospects for a legit pitcher with some team control left, or already signed for several years out.

Random question.

Can anyone explain to me MLB's reasoning on why teams aren't allowed to trade draft picks? It seems like another asset that teams can use to get out of the bottom of the league. Even if it's just allowing the first 10 rounds to be traded.

Do they believe it would hurt parity or something?

Hello Win Column! Rangers take over third place by half a game!

Rangers have the tougher schedule for the rest of the season.

TEX
CLE(3), @SEA(3), @LAA(3), NYY(4)
10/13 vs playoff teams

LAA
@MIN(3), OAK(3), TEX(3), @OAK(3)
0/12 vs playoff teams

https://nypost.com/2022/09/22/rangers-could-land-jacob-degrom-in-quest-for-pitching/

Quote:

The Rangers are intent on adding a big-time starter, and word is they may go for Jacob deGrom. Folks marvel at how MLB's best pitcher is throwing better than ever off his 13-month layoff, and while there aren't a lot of teams ready to take a $40 million gamble, the Rangers might.

Rangers baseball president Chris Young wouldn't address any specific pitching targets but said they "will leave no stone unturned" in their search to upgrade pitching a year after they significantly upgraded offense.

I fully believe it ^, the rangers slapped it on the table last offseason and said we're here to play. I don't think there's really any dollar amount that will scare them off from anyone.
DallasAg 94
How long do you want to ignore this user?
deGrom is owed 2 more years at $32.5M per, with the 2nd yr being a team option.

At 34, if he opts-out, he is likely getting 3-4yrs @ $40M per. My guess is, this is a story using the Rangers as a way to get NYM to pony up.

I don't say many nice things about JD but he certainly learned about going all-in on a long-term contract for SP that you know likely spends at least 1 season injured.

$40M of dead SP money is pretty big.

Having said that... I'm really surprised the Rangers haven't extended Martin Perez. In his last 4 GS, he has gone 24.1 IP and 2.96 ERA.

Season: 30 GS, 2.90 ERA, 183.1 IP. He is #7 in the AL for ERA.

Either he/his agent or the Rangers were not as sincere as they projected. So much for waiting until after the trade deadline.
