Remember when Tim Bogar took over for wash and he won a lot of meaningless games that felt good to win, but didn't accomplish anything?

We missed out on the chance to draft Alex Bregman and didn't even hire Bogar. Brought in Bannister instead who was awful.

Well, to be clear on history, the Rangers still finished worse than Houston in 2014 and picked ahead of their regular #1. Bregman was picked with a comp pick for not signing Brady Aiken in 2014 who was the #1 overall pick after the astros won 51 games in 2013

Y'all ever think we gave up on Darvish too soon?

Update: Rangers recalled Sam Huff and optioned Viloria. It's time for Sam Huff to nut up or shut up. I think he's got the tools, he just needs to get consistent at-bats. It's unfair to have him catch a game and then take three games off. He needs to be in the lineup everyday as a DH/C because we will never know if he's truly got it or not unless he does get everyday at-bats.

Nah, they had Darvish pegged as just too injury prone to be reliable, which he's missed large parts of multiple seasons since. I also think that if they extended him, he would have cost even more than what the Cubs paid. That post-season with the Dodgers hurt his value, but that doesn't happen if he never leaves at the end of 17. After two underwhelming Rangers post-season appearances, those 2 one-inning WS appearances basically dropped him from a $30mill/year guy to a $20 mill/yr guy in about a week's time. It was also just time to break down and rebuild

Also, watching Hunter Brown shove it down our throats yesterday might've been the low of the season for me. What the Astros do with their pitching and what we do with ours is depressing.

So in looking at things, the Yankees close out the season in Arlington and Aaron Judge may be sitting at say 59 homers entering the series....how crazy is attendance going to be those last four games if that's the case?!

At this point he's going to get to 60 a week before they even get to Arlington.

Yep. IMO, the Rangers for years have mis-evaluated pitchers, and have also been misguided in the type of pitchers they focused on. Too many low 90s arms and not enough guys touching 100. Even Cole Winn sits at around 92-93. It's almost as if they said "Oh, Colby Lewis....we need more of that". As great as he was for the Rangers, he wasn't a dominant pitcher like a Verlander or Scherzer.

I'm hoping now that we're seeing guys like Leiter, Rocker, and even Valasco that they've reset their scouting priorities when it comes to pitching.

love seeing the opponent give up game winning run with pass ball with catchers knee on ground at pitch

I'm not the biggest Glenn Otto fan, but he has had a nice little stretch of games recently. I'd take him over Dunning currently.

If you take out his 4.0 IP/8ER game against Boston... his 4GS this season, his ERA is 4.30.

The question is... can he get to 5.0 IP. He is averaging less than 5.0 IP/GS. I suspect if he went to 6.0 IP, his ERA would melt down.

Otto is extremely inefficient in terms of number of pitches and innings. Unfortunately that is the trend in baseball today. I believe the average MLB starter goes barely 5 innings these days. It is why I think guys like Framber Valdez are some of the most valuable players in the game. He frequently goes 6, 7, and 8 innings deep in games. That is almost invaluable today.

Speaking of efficiency (and durability):

Perez (31): 27 GS, 166.0 IP (6.0 IP/GS), 2.82, 1.22 WHIP
Dunning (27): 26 GS, 138.0 IP (5.1 IP/GS), 4.37, 1.43 WHIP
Otto (26): 22 GS, 108.2 IP (5.0 IP/GS), 4.80, 1.38 WHIP
Gray (30): 19 GS, 103.1 IP (5.1 IP/GS), 3.83, 1.17 WHIP

27 G left. That's maybe 5GS per, or 25 more IP. That'd put Otto at about 133 and both Dunning and Perez over 162 IP.

We know Perez is critical to 2023. If Gray reached the same level (162IP), we'd have had a decent front four.

We signed Gray 4yr/$14Mper, IIRC. Signing Perez to similar would be nice. Those 4 should all still be successful/similar or better in 2023.

How much effort do we put into Matt Moore (33)?! He has served us well in the BP, but I think he'd prefer a SP role.

BTW, Rangers are 5th in Runs scored in the AL.

Emmanuel Clase pumps out 100 mph on the ready. Let's trade him to Cleveland for a bag of mexican jumping beans.

Honestly it feels like for a while we took the approach to batters that we should have taken for pitchers. Bet on the guy with power and potential

If Jung comes up and has success I will start to legitimately feel like we are on our way to having a stable of good young players. Both Thompson and Taveras are hitting above .280 for the year

Excited for Jung's call-up. He needs to play every day though. None of this babying crap. He's 24 going on 25 years old. Get the most out of this guy or get the heck out of the way.

That has to be one of the most ABs by Seager this season. Yikes. None of the pitches were been close, and he swung at all three of them

Really don't understand why you don't go after Alvarez there. Absolutely brutal

By not being lazy with one knee and actually attempting to block it/ knock it down. A major league catcher blocks that and not swipes at it with his glove….especially in that situation. His defense has been terrible behind the plate all season.

This the bigger question. Alvarez is ice cold and ground ball machine right now. Plus we walked him and put the winning run on third. Just mind blowing considering who's on the mound. Hernandez is a wild pitch waiting to happen
