The new rules related to the shift start next year, so that should help him at the plate. Although I don't think they have fully defined the exact specifics of the new shift related rules.

I still wouldn't trade much of anything for him now, but he may be worth a shot as a free agent if he is willing to sign for a reasonable amount. But you need to know the shift rules before you even consider that IMO. (Maybe the shift rules have been announced and I just missed it). He is still a plus defender with a plus arm, has power and can run the bases. But he's also still an enigma as well. Somebody will give him a shot.

That sucks. I read the linked article, he collapsed in the parking lot and later died at the hospital the same day.

If the team wanted to take a flyer on Gallo with a reasonable FA contract I could see it.

To me, it makes absolutely zero sense to trade anything away for an underperforming player (batting .160) who is in the last year of his contract. You are most likely giving away prospects for nothing.

Let the season play out, let him become a FA and then see if there's any common ground to be had contractually.

That's on way to beat the shift.

Gallo is borderline playing himself out of the league right now. That said if Texas could bring him back on a Martin Perez contract then you do it. I doubt Gallo signs anywhere for more than 1 year because he is going to want to reestablish his value.

Crazy that Gallo turned down the rangers 5 year 84 million dollar deal last year, I don't see anyway that he ever recoups that money.

I think the attitude thing might be somewhat correct. He majorly needs to make huge adjustments to his swing but he seems to have refused to do so.

Agree. Honestly, to strike out this much, I do think a guy has to either drastically turn down his give-a-**** meter or he'll crack. Neither is good as a 162 game baseball mindset.

Me. I love Smith as a player. I was on record in this thread saying he was going to be the gem of that Gallo trade. I really like Duran as well and am excited to eventually see Jung. Idk how they can take the position away from Smith at this point though. Hopefully Duran is getting reps in the OF in the minors. Not sure what to do with Jung at this point. I would say put him at 1B but Lowe has probably been the most consistent bat in this line up. Gonna be interesting to see how it plays out.

Just messing around about the power comment. That was fun play to watch. I think he will find a little pop but if he produces consistently I think he will be a really good one.
