Luis Castillo? That's a tough call. He'd have 1.5 years of control. I'd personally like to have control through the 2024 season for any major acquisitions at the deadline this year.

I don't want anybody with that short amount of control. I have no interest in any trade piece for this year. Or really even next year if they don't continue to spend in the off-season.

I am wanting them to pretty much stand pat this year. I think we might have our third baseman in Smith. We could probably use another option in the outfield with a strong bat. But I don't think that will really fix much.

We have to get more consistent in the field. And the pitching needs to be a bit more effective. But I don't want to see a talent drain in the minors to address any of that for a team that will maybe get in the wild card discussion. Especially for a short time player.

We need pitching and an outfielder. I would love to see us sign two SP this offseason. Hopefully one of our OF prospects can be ready or trade some of our middle infield away to get a veteran OF or a pitcher but I want multiple years out of them.

What's the plan with Duran? I think he can definitely play in the league. But with Smith and even Jung seems we have a backlog 3B.

It would not surprise me to send him dangled as a trade piece. Also would not surprise me if he or someone else from our wealth of middle infielders transitioned to an outfielder

Agree. At this point I'm not sold on Smith being our every day 3B. That position needs pop and Smith has shown nothing more than being a good obp guy.

Smith is a fantastic utility type player but I'm not convinced he has enough pop to be an everyday guy. Josh Jung has superstar potential but has been bitten by the injury bug. I think he has legitimate .280 average and 30 homer potential.

Smith has never been a power hitter. He's a +defender, +speed, +OBP type of player. I guess I've never understood why a 3B NEEDS to have power. Smith is the type of guy that can drive runners in, and has enough to speed to score from 1st on a ball hit in the gap.

Jung needs to prove he can recover and be healthy going into next season. He's proven literally nothing at the big league level thus far. Management will trust the assets they currently have. If Jung can with the position during ST next year then that is fantastic. Then we will have a super utility guy in Smith that has the athleticism to play anywhere.

This. I've been impressed with Smith, but his power numbers look more like a typical middle infielder than third baseman.

With the idea that this team still needs a few pieces I started looking at 2023 free agents that could potentially be targets or fill needs. Be interesting to see what CY and JD do with both Soto and Ohtani set to hit the market in 2024.

Pretty sure they said pitching will be the focus this offseason doubt we go after a big name position player.

I'd be happy with Thor or Musgrove and resigning Perez. Diaz would be great help in the BP as well since we don't really have a closer on the team currently.

That's not something I'm worried about. Even if they make a trade, it's gonna be for a bag of baseballs at this point.

Well as long as we're not giving up any significant pieces in the farm I'm for it. Gallo was never going to work out in NY. He's too mental. With Garver out for the season we need a DH. Gallo, Leody, Garcia would be a pretty salty defense. Rotate Calhoun, Garcia and Calhoun as DH.

Yeah, I would not expect the Rangers to give up much in the deal. But I just don't see how he's an upgrade over the current OF options. And that pains me, because I'm a big fan of Gallo and was bummed when he was traded.

Not sure I am too excited about that. I don't miss all the strikeouts. I suppose if we could get him without giving up any top tier prospects, it might be worth the experiment.

Higher ceiling. Will always have to deal with the Ks but if we can get the Gallo we traded to the Yankees back last season then he's certainly better than Miller at the plate and WAY better defensively. Who knows. Change of scenery may help him a ton.

I'd give up virtually nothing to get Gallo. Other than one half of a season, he's never hit worth a damn. At some point you have to accept that what he has been is all he's going to be - a.200 hitter with power. No thanks, we already have enough swing and miss in our lineup.

Is Garver going to have the surgery during the ASB? He's in the lineup again today.

Let's just bring back Odor while we're at it. We can call it the 200 club. 200 average and 200 strikeouts each.

I'm all for getting Gallo since we are losing Garver. Some people are just not capable of dealing with the trash that is New York. I doubt it would cost anything of value.
