With Covid and the re-org of Minor League Baseball... I don't know much about how to view the Minors. Seems like a very aged group of players. I get College vs HS drafted players. I wonder with the fewer # of minor league teams and the way the minors are now funded, if you will see more players drafted after college, instead of HS.

I thought this was a really interesting take, and so I did a little research on it. I looked at the top 50 baseball prospects and checked their ages. There's only 6 in the top 50 who are under 20 years old. It looks to me like the average age is 21 or 22. A lot of the players you listed organizationally aren't really "prospects" as much as roster fillers. The legitimate prospects are, for the most part, the younger players you listed. Guys like Saggese, Duran Acosta, Harris, etc.

Baseball seems to be trending towards players making their MLB debuts in their mid 20s as opposed to their early 20s, which is how it used to be.

I think Taveras is finally playing at the level where he is of average age of all the other players. He's been playing above his age more or less since he signed at 17. I know the Rangers frequently challenge players by assigning them to a higher league, but it doesn't mean that it always speeds up their development.

He may wind up being a bust.

But 300 ABs is too small of a sample size to make that determination, especially on a young player. If he was 26 or 27 and he hadn't established himself, you clearly give up on him.

Yeah I'm in no way giving up on him in the least. Just saying that it's not really a bold statement to say a young prospect in baseball isn't going to pan out - most don't.

Going to my first game at the new park tonight. Really looking forward to it. Any absolute must see restaurant/food vendor or location?

Unless you're into the exotic ballpark fare (boomstick, alligator corny dog, brisket egg rolls, etc) just go eat somewhere close beforehand to avoid lines and high prices. Twisted Root is our go-to before games.

Texas Live has some good options; get there early, park, brews and food at Live, walk over for the game.

This team has its flaws but offense isn't one of them. They're near the top in nearly every offensive category out there. At least it's entertaining.

And this is with Semien's slow start.

Not going to hold this Angels lineup to 2 runs, but it sure would be nice to put up a couple of zeroes and not feel like we're always having to mash.

Dunning hasn't been horrible so far but they are keeping his pitch count down.

So I don't get the Ohtani rule. What was the point of a rule to benefit one player? Is there an expectation that there's going to be some massive host of pitchers that are going to hit all the time? I assume it's to keep him on the field, but why a rule for one freaking guy?

I don't care if it's been 6 or 60. This team is building for the future and needs to be giving Willie and Solak as many ABs as possible. Not some old journeyman that will probably hit around the Mendoza line.
