If that slide is illegal then there are illegal slides every game.

After watching this I think it was a good overturn by New York. My issue is they need to be consistent on this call. Maybe it's because not enough managers are challenging slides

I think that's basically the issue.

By rule, it was a bad slide... But by rule roughly 70% of slides in the MLB are bad slides and we really shouldn't be wanting to go down the road of reviewing all of them.

Ultimately what it turns into is in late game situations you challenge things just because there's no downside to it and maybe by the letter of law a rule was broken.

What I find even funnier about the whole ordeal is that MLB actually made a big deal about how great an innovation they were making this year that the umpires would "tells the fans" what the call was -- because seemingly with something as simple as "safe" or "out" the fans needed to hear it rather than just see the outcome?

Then you have an opportunity to actually have the umpire explain on the call *why* the runner was out. And they didn't. So you still had 30,000 people leaving the park not really knowing why the game ended like it did.

And that's baseball. Can't get out of it's own way.

That's my issue. Why is that even reviewable? That's way too much of a gray area rule to reviewable imho.

If you ask me the question "Is baseball better since the advent of instant replay?", I'm pretty firmly in the no camp. We gripe about umpiring/replay the same amount, if not more now. And if they just keep adding more gray area rules to list of what's reviewable, it just gets worse.

Then there's the bang bang play, huge call goes in your favor, but wait. Instead of cheers and high fives let's all crane our necks to big brother on the video board because it's probably getting reviewed.

Agree. Is there no "irrefutable" standard applied in baseball reviews?

I will give you the fact there are several slides in most games that are borderline or straight up illegal and if it is going to be enforced it needs to be modified.

Quite the Pandora's box here.

The rough equivalent is asking for a replay in football for a out of bounds and the replay booth saying "runner was in bounds, however there was a hold that was missed so team is being penalized 10 yards from spot of the foul"
CampingAg

That's why I'm fine getting rid of replay altogether. Sure, you'll have your Denkinger/Jim Joyce moments every decade or two, but it's not worth all this ancillary stuff in between on a nightly basis in my opinion. There's 162 games. A missed call isn't gonna be the reason your season is ruined. And the bad calls will even out over time.

Just wasn't our day man. Ever since the first inning, all of the calls and breaks went the Rockies way. Oh well. We still almost beat them. Lets get them today.

Agree with what he says. I think the slide rule needs to be changed to be intent to hurt or just ridiculous out of your way slide.

Also keep in mind that call didn't lose us the game - it just ended it.

No guarantee we'd have gotten another run. And even if we did, better than even chance our bullpen would blow it again in the 11th.

My understanding is that the documentary will be showed on May 1 after the Rangers' game against the Braves.

This is from. Chris Halicke's report.

As for Marcus Semienwho signed a seven-year, $175 million contract with Texas this offseasonhe's opened the season with a rough stretch, slashing .091/.130/.136/.266 with just one RBI in 22 at-bats. Woodward said that Semien would never use it as an excuse, but the Rangers skipper revealed that his new second baseman was under the weather and "felt terrible" during the series in Toronto, which could explain the slow start for a guy who set the Major League record for home runs in a single season by a second baseman last year.

Hopefully just a really bad cold or something.

Don't look now, but Leody Tavares is hitting .538 in AAA. Granted, it's a fairly small sample size, but that's a pretty torrid start.

Bubba Thompson is hitting .407. Stats as of last night's game (Tuesday).

Bubba was smashing in Spring ball. Hopefully he's finally growing into the draft pick invested in him.

I'll be glad to eat crow, but Taveras strikes me as one of those AAAA type players where they dominate in triple A, but it just doesn't translate to the majors.

Agreed on Taveras, but would love to be wrong. I think Bubba Thompson has a higher ceiling.

Took a deeper dive into Tavares' stats so far.

26 ABs, 14 hits. 4 2Bs, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 2 SB. 1 walk, and this is what got my attention, only 4 Ks.
He's making contact, which was his issue last year. He's only 23, so maybe he's getting some stuff figured out. When the Rangers brought him up in '19, he had only played 65 games at AA, the rest of his professional career had been in the Rookie league & A ball. He got rushed to the majors before he was ready.

I certainly want to see him at AAA for a while, and see if he can continue to hit. If he can, Eli White better start looking over his shoulder.

Defensively Taveras was pretty good at least in terms of sped and range in the outfield. Don't remember how good his arm was/is, but if he can hit he'd definitely be valuable with added speed on the base paths
