But I hear this a lot and I wonder if this is actually the case? I mean it seems most games I watch, if it's a ball that most SS's wouldn't have gotten, but Pena (or whoever) does but can't make the play, they typically don't rule those as errors. They're typically ruled as hits unless he then throws it away and the hitter gets second or something. Seems they generally lean towards the side of ruling anything borderline as a hit.

Would be interesting to know if they had a "catch star ranking" type equivalent to infielders and how many of Pena's errors were really on a 3, 4, or 5 star play.

That's pretty neat, but not quite what I'm asking. That's all catch probability, and it's for him hitting, can't filter by his fielding, do they have a fielding probability? So like a grounder up the middle.

But did find you can filter all his fielding opportunities by errors and get the video. Of the 14 errors they had video for, I thought these 3 were borderline. Either way, not taking anything away from him, his range and plays he's made definitely warrant the gold glove.

Yes he's good but it's a position traditionally loaded with superstars. Very happy for him and he was very good out there for us.

The fielding tab, which the link should bring you to, is 100% fielding not hitting.

I think the 7' wall has a lot to do with this, but still cool.
